Featuring a strong and spirited hero, Disney’s new film, Moana, is now available to watch as often and as many times as your DC likes, without having to worry about your proximity to a DVD player. So, inspired by Moana herself, and to celebrate the digital release of new film, Disney want to hear about the strong heroines who inspire your DCs.

Disney has said: “Did you know you can already download and keep Disney’s Moana from a variety of digital stores including Sky Store and iTunes. With great music, lots of laughs and a kick-ass heroine, Moana is a great movie for the whole family and will get you in the mood for summer. You can enjoy it on TV with the family or take it with you on your phone, tablet, laptop to keep the kids entertained while you are all out and about. The Blu-ray ™ and DVD are available on Monday 3rd April.”

Now Disney want to hear about the kick-ass heroines in your lives. Maybe it’s a teacher, a friend, a celebrity or - obvious choice - their Mum! From the everyday, to the extraordinary, anyone can be a heroine, so ask your DCs about the strong women in their lives and see who they come up with.

LOVE THIS FILM and Moana is a BOSS!!

I've got to say a friend of mine. She bosses it so hard. She's an ex-model turned Mum, and a student, she also had a weekend job and her own craft business (busy!). After a salon accidentally burnt her hair off, she was forced to shave her head (!) but she still carried on, looked like an absolute babe! She is now having another baby, and has faced horrible pregnancy discrimination but she is still so strong! I would have crumbled a long time ago but she refused to give up. Go girl!

My 7 yr old Dd asked about who she was as I was reading her autobiography recently. Once I explained her story she was amazed at her courage and conviction. She wanted to know her story too. She had her eyes opened to how privileged she is just to be able to go to school. Something she doesn't always appreciate.
She talks about how she wants to make things better for children less fortunate than herself and it is a really heartening thing to see.
I suppose I didn't expect her to react the way she did but her sense of injustice was palpable.

My DC's reply -

My role model is my Grandma. She's in Heaven now but she was my rock. She always listened and always put her family first. She worked tirelessly to make us happy. She played with us, read to us and corrected us when we were wrong or naughty but all in the most endearing way. I know she is still there to guide me in her own way.
She was a teacher and a strong woman and I wish I can be just like her when I grow up.

(Yep - she summed it up. That's my Mum! )

My little boy Oliver who's 4 answered that he thought I, his mummy, was a strong woman.

He says I know everything and I'm strong because I can carry all the bags and him from the car to the house when it's raining!

My daughter and I loved Moana at the cinema, she's so brave and strong heading off on an adventure to save her village. My mum is a strong woman, she works hard but still makes time to help with childcare.

We loved moana! My dcs strong female role model are the Downey sisters. They work really hard, and even if they fall off/muck something up they get right back up and try again.

Best Disney film in a long time and it's made my four year old far more interested in being an explorer and adventurer than dressing up as a princess - YES! About time!

I try to be a strong figure for my daughter and give her the message that anything is possible for her if she works hard.

I'm training for a marathon so she has seen me head out running in all weathers and I always say that it's hard work but sometimes in order to achieve your goals that's what it takes.

We loved moana and its great that Disney are showing stronger female characters. Even the new beauty and the beast is an improvement.

My female role models were my Nana and my aunt. Both strong feminist women who encouraged me to follow my dreams.

When Dr Helen Sharman became the first British astronaut they didn't laugh when i said I'd like to go to space (not going to happen, i don't even like high rides let alone flying!!!) They told me that I can do anything.

My DD5 and I loved Moana and are still singing the songs weeks later! "You're Welcome!"

I asked her who she thought was a strong woman and she said that I was because I carry her to bed when she's too tired to walk just being lazy...

She also thinks that Grandma is a SuperGran because she looks after her and her little cousin every day after school and keeps them entertained until myself and my DSIL finish work.

I agree that my mum is amazing, she's definitely my role model and I find myself becoming more and more like her as the years go by. Which is just fine with me as she is so very loved and is the head and heart of our family

Grandma is a great role model for my dc. She's a very tough woman who is very inventive and managed to build a garden summerhouse out of bits of scrap wood. The dcs love going over for sleepovers and using it as their den.

My DD says the strong women in her life are her mum and her teacher. She is six.

My own mum is my heroine. She is my dds too... she raised my brother and I when our dad died. Worked all hours god gave her to make sure we had a wonderful life. When my own relationship fell apart and my ex turned out to be pure evil she took care off dd so I could do my degree and build a life for us.
She is absolute magic!

DD (7) struggled to come up with anyone. Then decided it was a woman she saw in the street 6 days ago who just looked strong. Thanks a bunch DD!

She actually has a great role model in her teacher, and lots of strong women around her!

We loved Moana here too, and as DD and I have Pasifica heritage the story really resonated. DD7 said that she wants to be just like me when she grows up I am strong and kick-ass so she could do a lot worse!! She also has strong female role models in her 'aunties' (three of my good friends) and her teacher, whom she adores.

When I asked my 3 year old she said Elsa (but Elsa is her answer to practically everything). She then said "superheroes to the rescue!" - so quite honestly it could be anyone!

My DD says that Karen Bardsley one of England's goalkeepers is her strong woman inspiration. My DD is also a goalkeeper and Karen wrote to her giving her tips and advice on how to be a good footballer. She is my DDs favourite player as she has such a strong mentality and keeps cool in important matches.

My 7 year old son loved the film, especially the songs. His heroine is his best friend Evie who he adores and thinks is amazing. She does kickboxing and trampolining and he does ballet and dancing. She is completely fearless and will try anything. He is more cautious and has to be a bit more careful as he has severe eczema but she encourages him to be daring and he helps her to be more thoughtful. When he's having a difficult day with his skin or the other kids make comments she stands by him and lets them see the error of their ways Such a lovely friendship

My 7 year old said strong women he knew were 'mum [good boy], aunty, and gran' so he is a lucky boy. His teacher is also a good female role model, strict but fair and fun. She's his most favourite teacher he's had. He really enjoyed Moana too, although sadly I didn't get to see it (I have a small baby).

Right now, it would have to be my MIL (Nanny to them), who is going through cancer diagnosis and treatment with immense strength and dignity. She also raised my DH and BIL alone and they have both grown into professional, successful men who are both wonderful hands-on dads.

We are all very proud of her.
