As part of their Good To Know campaign, McDonald’s have released three new videos to give a little bit more information on the ingredients they use in their products, and they’re keen to hear what Mumsnetters think. You may have noticed the recent threads we’ve had about McDonald’s chicken nuggets and fries. The final video focuses on McDonalds’ burgers and gives a bit more information about the ingredients they use to make them. McDonalds would love to hear your feedback on the video.

McDonald’s say "We’ve launched our Good To Know campaign to provide our customers with more information on the quality of the ingredients we use in our products. Despite some common misconceptions, our Chicken McNuggets are made with 100% chicken breast meat, fries are made from real, whole British spuds and 100% beef from whole cuts of forequarter and flank goes into a McDonald’s burger. Alongside the Good To Know website, we’re launching the three new videos you’ll see in Mumsnet threads over the next few weeks, and we’re really interested to hear your thoughts"

Please watch the 40 second video below:

After watching the video please let us know:
  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?
  • Did it change your perceptions of McDonalds’ Burgers at all? If so, how?
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

Whatever your thoughts, McDonald’s would love to hear about them.
Everyone who adds a comment will be entered in to a prize draw, where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks & good luck,

The overall message of the video was very positive.

It didn't change my perception of McDonalds burgers at all.

I'm already a McDonalds visitor.

I wouldn't be interested in visiting the website as I don't really visit company websites.

I thought the overall message in the film was patronising. Women are thick, base their opinions on mindless gossip and obviously need educating.

No it didn't change my perceptions as even if McDonald's burgers are made with 100% beef they are still hideous mush.

I visit McDonald's very occasionally with my children already as a treat for them because they love it.

I wouldn't visit the website for more information as its not something I'm interested in and I really don't want more simplistic propaganda to try persuade me to eat more McDonald's.

I was left feeling a bit skeptical after the video, after all a company is not going to say if their products are full of junk.

But I'm happy to go to McDonald's as an occasional visitor anyway. I don't mind going with the dc every now and then.

I probably wouldn't go to the website. I accept that sometimes we're going to eat food that isn't great for us, so no point trying to convince myself that McDonald's is great quality food.

I don't visit McDonalds often, we don't live near one. It hasn't changed my view on them, I still think it is ok to have one every now and again....even if it's only because I love the gherkins on the burgers and can't get homemade to taste the same!

swooosh · 30/12/2015 15:29

This hasn't changed my view. I will continue to visit McDonalds. I look at their website to see any new items they may have. I visit for convenience, if I want a 'proper' burger I will visit elsewhere. That being said I tend to go for chicken or fish if I go to McDonalds.

The video hasn't changed my mind, I do occasionally take my children to McDonald's. I've never thought it was awful food, just not everyday food, this hasn't changed. Not tempted to go to the website really.

(At the start of the video, I was worried that laura thought that cows were purple because kids nowadays know nothing about where food comes from!)

We don't go, it won't encourage me but I feel a little more positive about them. I find it greasy salty and dirty but maybe that's just the one beside us?

foxessocks · 30/12/2015 18:28

The main thing that stuck out to me was the pinch of salt. That's what I'd worry about the most, the salt in it. When I cook at home I don't add salt.

This one is significantly better than the 'our fries are made out of potatoes' one.

  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?

The message was clear, your burgers are made without additives simply beef. Having said that we've all seen pictures of the 2 year old McDonald's burger that looks the same as a new freshly made one. So I'm not sure I really believe the no additives message.

  • Did it change your perceptions of McDonalds’ Burgers at all? If so, how?

Not really.

  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?

I'm already a current visitor and extremely partial to the Big Mac.

  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

I doubt I could be bothered to be honest.

I think the overall message was reassuring in that it was about the lack of additives in the burgers. I have visited the McDonald's company website before mainly to find out the least calorific options if we decide to have a burger from there. My main gripe is that the burger never looks anything like the picture on the menu! My DC like them and they are a cheap treat. However, the video wouldn't encourage me to eat any more of them than I already do.

What did you think of the overall message in the video?
It was positive but not new information.
- Did it change your perceptions of McDonalds’ Burgers at all? If so, how?
No, I think they have said for a long time that they use 100% beef, i think they should be saying how much salad etc they add so it can be counted as a more balanced meal.

- If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
Only on the odd occasion as we can only eat veg of fish options as follow a halal diet.

As a vegetarian I avoid McDonalds and nothing will change my opinion of them.

Report
SladeGreen · 31/12/2015 02:31

Its not the beef that's the problem. It is the addictives in the bread buns (to extend their shelf life), and also the fact that the chicken selects are not British or Irish, they are in fact from Thailand. I used to work for them up until very recently so I know what I'm talking about.

I'd love to hear what they have to say about that.

The message is fine and clear. But it is a little bit patronising. It hasn't changed my perception of McDonald's. I go rarely and don't take my young kids as i don't consider it a healthy meal for them.

McDonalds burgers are not as bad as you think, or as some people think. They don't have additives and they are made for well treated cattle.

It changed my views a modicum. I do find it hard to believe, but I guess they cannot lie.

I am not interested in visiting McDonalds. I don't like the big chains because of their labour practices, anti environmental policies and general support of the most destructive thing on this planet, Capitalism. Anyhow I prefer not to eat meat and there is not much meatless worth eating at McD.

If the children really pressed for it, I would look with them at the anti website to weigh it all up.

From not for cattle! Though no doubt it all gets back into the food slops somehow.

Fun light-hearted tone, not patronising but no, I still wouldn't visit or take my kids. At the end of the day, it is salty, greasy crap food. No interest in visiting the website either. Now pass me the quinoa!

Cute video.
Bit sexist.
Good overall message - pure beef, but I already knew that.
Already take my kids there from time to time.
Probably would not bother visiting the website - I know it is not great food but it's not as bad as some people like to make out and we go there for convenience rather than a "special treat".

We go very occasionally, mainly at a motorway service stations when traveling on Iong car journeys.

The dc like the cheese burgers, but then they like any kind of burger.

No I wouldn't be bother with looking at a website.

It's not too bad, as adverts go although I would like to know that the beef is British. Not all that impressed with the idea that women just gossip and have their hair done. I visit occasionally with my children and this won't change my behaviour.

It was an informative website and reassuring, but their burgers are still nothing like a good homemade one. However, we eat at McDonolds occasionally when on the way home from a day out and if we need a quick dinner. DC love the Happy Meals. The food is ok, alright to eat on a very occasional basis. I do feel better knowing they use the good parts of the cow. However, it's still junk food! I only visit the website to look at the menu - I'm visually impaired and it's easier to read than looking in store.

Its good to know that they are 100% beef, sometimes I wonder what goes in them but its great to reassure people that there are no added nasties. It doesn't change my perception as such, as I do enjoy a mcdonalds not he odd occasion, but it does give me that added reassurance that what i'm eating isn't as bad as I sometimes think it might be

What did you think of the overall message in the video?

Positive although I agree with other posters that the info was not new.

  • Did it change your perceptions of McDonalds’ Burgers at all? If so, how?

No. I will visit with DV every now and then. I am veggie though although they are not.

  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?

See above. I will continue to visit every now and then.

  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

No, life is too short for visiting company websites unless trying to figure out if something is veggie or gluten free etc.

Overall message was that they use beef (not sure that they still don't use all those pink squishy bits though...)

Did it change my perception of McDonald's burgers? Not really

Not currently a McDonald's visitor apart from an apple pie every two or there years! Probably won't change my habits as I'm vegetarian anyway.

I probably wouldn't go on the good. To know website of my own accord but now I know about it I'll have a look about.
