British Lion Eggs have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ weaning recipes are.

Here’s what they say, “Dr Juliet Gray, registered nutritionist, says, ‘The current evidence suggests that mums looking to wean their babies can be encouraged to introduce eggs from six months as an early weaning food, as this could have a positive effect in terms of nutritional intake and may also help promote immune tolerance of eggs.’"

“In the past there has been doubt surrounding egg consumption by pregnant women and babies. It was recommended that these groups avoid eating eggs that were not fully cooked because of the small risk of salmonella. Since the British Lion scheme was introduced in 1998, however, these risks have been effectively eliminated from Lion-marked eggs.”

“The Food Standards Agency is currently reviewing the evidence relating to the safety of eggs in the UK with results expected in 2016. The British Egg Industry Council says that the safety record of British Lion eggs means that vulnerable groups should now be allowed to consume them when runny.”

So, what are your top egg weaning recipes? Have you ever weaned your children on eggs before? If so, how did you find it? Did you scramble, boil or make omelettes? With my son, I weaned him onto eggs early - same as peanut butter, meat etc.

I would make eggy bread and cut into strips for him to hold and munch on.

Omelettes with cherry tomatoes and basil in slices.

Egg and chive 'muffins' cooked in muffin tins are a fave.

Now he's older he loves fried eggs, dippy eggs with soldiers.

I'm pregnant at the moment and always have Lion stamped eggs runny poached eggs with smashed avocado on toast :)

Scrambled eggs are really easy, quick weaning food. I'd often add spinach, or cheese. DS still loves it! Very quick and easy for when he's being impatient too

Am doing baby led weaning this time round.

He loves eggs- scrambled, hard boiled and just cut up or as frittata with whichever veg I've got in the fridge and a bit of cheese.

I used eggs quite early on. My children enjoyed omlettes and fritatta, and boiled eggs with sticky rather than runny yolks, but sadly scrambled egg was less successful.
Poached eggs with mashed potato and spinach or broccolli was another good meal - now they are older we usually have fried potatoes instead, and some crispy bacon on top, but the idea is the same.
I'd often beat an egg with cheese and spinach and use it to make a quick sauce for pasta - just keep stirring until it is cooked.
They both absolutely love(d) pancakes too - in fact I still use all the same recipes years later.

My sons both rejected eggs for the first few months that I tried scrambled eggs! I persevered and the eldest came around about 9 months old and started to nibble the pieces of scrambled eggs on his plate. It has taken longer with my youngest, I've been hiding egg in his rice for ages but it is only at 2 that he has started to eat recognizable egg dishes - scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, or omelets. It is now a staple dish in our house for both boys.

I used to make a Spanish Omelette for my DS when he was weaning. It had a good texture and could easily be cut into chunks for him to pick up. I found well cooked egg dishes better as they are easier to grasp and don't evade little fingers.

I use eggy bread slices and scrambled egg (although it tends to be more of an exploratory food-more on the floor then in them!)

Buttery and/or cheesy scrambled eggs and eggy bread were early favourites. Followed by omelettes, plain boiled, eggy pasta, mashed with mayonnaise as sandwich fillings as well as in baked muffins andcakes.

If they ate eggs then I knew that they'd had a good, nutritious and filling food.

I made microwave cheesey scrambled egg from about 6 months. Whisk an egg, dash of milk and a little bit of grated cheese. 1 1/2 mins in the microwave. I would slice in to strips rather than mix up so they could hold it themselves.

Just started weaning my 5 month old, a little earlier than the recommended 6 months but he was literally taking my toast out of my hand and eating it so I figured he was ready enough! Would certainly introduce him to eggs after 6 months but not sure about runny eggs. I am thinking eggy bread would be a great starter, but also boiled egg chopped up for finger food & scrambled eggs / omelettes too. I only buy Free Range eggs.

We gave DS scrambled eggs fairly early on, probably 6/7 months, he loved them, and still does.

He also loved slices of eggy bread with a small drop or Worcestershire sauce on them.

Now (17 months) he scoffs down boiled eggs as part of his lunch almost every day

We gave dd egg from the very start of weaning at 6 months. She's now 21 months and absolutely loves any kind of egg.
I make egg "muffins" beat an egg with some milk, add chopped veg/chopped cooked meat pour egg mix on top, top with cheese and bake for around 10-15 minutes. They freeze brilliantly and were fab for lunch out and about. Works well if you have a veg refuser too, just grate the veg instead of chopping Grin

I must admit that I did give runny boiled eggs to DS before he was a year old even though it wasn't the guideline at the time. Glad it now is! There's nothing better IMO. Soft boiled egg, firm white, runny yolk, soldiers made from white bread (not toast) with butter and marmite.

Scrambled eggs, frittata, omelette, boiled eggs, all featured on my kids menus when they were little.

But then I am married to an egg farmer!

My mum used to make us "Chucky eggs" mmmmmmm
I made them for my kids and now that they are teenagers that still like them if they want to be spoiled a bit. Recipe: boil your eggs but not hard. Get a decent sized mug and rip up bits of bread or toast into it. Crusts are nice too. Put your egg in and a lump of real butter. Mash it all up with a fork. Bit of salt and pepper for bigger people. Mmmmmm. Think I'll go and make one now. Cup always licked clean. Best ever comfort food.

I used eggs early on too. Basic scrambled eggs, which are still a favourite of the children's and boiled egg mashed up with a little butter-a favourite sandwich filling for my older sister, but not the children any more!!

I did baby led weaning with DS and he ate lots of eggs. I used to make eggy crumpets rather than eggy bread as it was easier to hold. Also banana 'pancakes' which is mashed banana whisked with eggs and cooked as you would a pancake.

We also made mini sweetcorn pancakes and carrot pancakes- flour, eggs, milk and either sweetcorn or grated carrot with cumin and spring onion.

Scrambled egg is a great weaning food- so quick and easy and enjoyed by older siblings and me too so no separate meals. Same for omelettes too. Toast dipped in a runny egg is tasty too. I remember having a discussion with sil who thought it wrong to give children runny eggs, she realised she was being too cautious when I pointed out she was happy for her toddler to eat cake mix which has raw eggs! :)

Mine loved eggy bread just a tablespoon of milk whisked with an egg, with bread soaked in the mixture then fried in butter. I still love it myself with sugar and cinnamon but don't get the opportunity to steal it from the DC any more - probably for the best.

Eggs have always been an important part of our family diet as we are vegetarian and the DCs have been vegetarian from birth (now aged 20 and 17!).

Like others, eggy bread fingers were an early weaning food. Once they were eating proper food, favourites included cheese omelettes, fried egg on toast and pancakes.

Now they are older, eggs are still a bit part of their diets. Egg curry, ranchers' eggs and a good old-fashioned fry-up are firm favourites!

Eggy bread was a big hit.
Scrambled eggs.
Hard boiled eggs once they were a little older and had an outside chance of getting it into their mouths. Although in hindsight I could have chopped them up.
Didn't think of spanish omlette. Next time.
