In conjunction with the Mumsnet Family Friendly programme Bank of America Merrill Lynch are pleased to be recruiting, for the 3rd year running, talent to join their "Returning Talent" programme. In the last two years Mumsnetters applied for and attended the programme and now the search is back on for the 2014 recruits.

They say "At Bank of America Merrill Lynch we have a strong commitment to attracting, recruiting and developing diverse talent. We recognise that choosing to have a family is a very important stage in life and that some people may decide to take time away from work to focus completely on caring for their family.

Further to the success of our Returning Talent programme in 2012 and 2013; in 2014 we will be hosting a Returning Talent Conference. The conference invites 50 participants; who have been away from work for three or more years to care for their family; the opportunity to visit our offices for a full day's conference to explore changes in the workplace, attend speaker sessions and workshops.

Following the conference, 20 participants will be invited to take part in our Returning Talent Programme. The programme consists of two, full day workshops designed to give you access to executive coaching in addition to employees and experts from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, supporting your transition back to work.

There is no guarantee of employment with the bank at the end of the programme but we do hope that many participants will be successful in securing work as a result of their experience. If you are looking at returning to work, the networking, insight and exposure this programme will offer you will be invaluable.

Returning Talent is being delivered by experts in maternity and coaching women in their return to work: Who currently deliver maternity coaching to Bank of America Merrill Lynch employees and their managers".

I found the link to the Returning Talent Conf here on MN and applied on a whim. I am lucky enough to have been offered a place, I'm looking forward to it.

Spg - I do have financial qualification but not ones directly relevant to banking and I did work in a management role. I suspect I probably won't be selected for the next stage as I don't have any banking experience and I think that's probably what they're after.

Still, it's great to be invited for the conference, I think I'll get a lot out if it.

JanuaryShoes Congratulations. Enjoy it and hope you find it useful.

If you don't mind sharing, what field are your qualifications in?
Just trying to guage what sort of profile they were looking for.
I have a PhD in computer science and have previous work experience in software development. But all technical, nothing on the managerial side of things

Hi, I got a yes. I'm very pleased and excited, especially given that I have just been rejected for a local job that I was over-qualified to do (the first job I've applied for since having my DCs) without even being interviewed. It's given me a nice boost and I'm really looking forward to the day.

spg sorry to hear that, maybe next year?

I got a No from them yesterday. Am not hugely disappointed or anything. But, would have been a nice opportunity to network.

Anyone who has got selected ?

Tw1nmummy - thanks for the excellent feedback! So glad it helped you.

I attended the last Returning Talent programme in March 2013. As a direct result of that programme I am now working ( and flexibly)for the first time in 10 years. I would urge anyone who is thinking about returning to work to consider applying - the programme was thought provoking and informative and helped me to understand just how much I still have to offer, despite being at home for almost a decade ! The other delegates on the programme with me were so talented and interesting, I now have a ready made network of people like myself. This programme ( which is free !) is a real gift and if you have relevant experience and feel ready to return to the workplace I would apply ( I should say I have never worked in a bank so don't let that put you off !)

No - because the programme helped me to realise that expanding my self-employed business was the way to go at the moment.

JanuaryShoes Sun 12-Jan-14 15:15:46

Did you go back to work pootle ?

pootlebug Sun 12-Jan-14 10:29:42

Just wanted to say that I attended this last year and found it really valuable. If anyone is on the fence about whether to apply...go for it!

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 10-Jan-14 14:27:11

hi - it could be tricky - do add your details though anyway and try to add a note about that date.

mumat39 Fri 10-Jan-14 14:21:41

AnnMumsnet, thanks for posting this.

I'd really love to apply but wouldn't be able to make the 28th February conference date, if I was to be selected. Does that mean I shouldn't apply?

Many thanks again.

nicename Sun 05-Jan-14 11:35:56

I applied last year and didn't get on (but the HOUR manager was really nice and helpful). Can I try again? Is there a quota for what type of work/department they are looking for?

imip Sun 05-Jan-14 06:43:28

Anyone forgottheshelfelf. All welcome to apply

Forgottheshelfelf Fri 03-Jan-14 22:37:47

If you go to the BoA/ML careers website (Google it) and search for "returning" it appears as a link.

Out of interest, is this just for returners who have previously worked in banking or for anyone who may be interested, regardless of past experience?

AnnMumsnet (MNHQ) Fri 03-Jan-14 22:10:11

Sorry if the link is not working for you. Whilst we find out what's happening please post on here or pm me if you are interested in finding out Koreand I will send you the amended link on Monday. Thanks and sorry again. Will pm it to all who have already asked.
