Jackson's Bakery have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters are using bread on a day to day basis.
Here's what Jackson's Bakery have to say: "Here at Jackson's we want to raise public awareness about local provenance and encourage consumers to regularly purchase locally sourced produce. What’s more we want to know how Mumsnetters use their bread day to day and broaden their culinary horizons. We have a collection of recipes on our website but we would love to hear your ideas too!"
What's your favourite way to include bread in your day? Do you start your day with some toast? Or maybe you like having sandwiches for lunch? What's your favourite type of bread? What about your DCs? Do you have to convince them to eat the crusts on their bread, or do they like the crusts?
Do you ever use bread in other recipes? Maybe you like making bread and butter pudding? Or do you use bread for pizza bases? Whatever you use bread in, Jackson's Bakery would love to hear about it.

love a real wholesome loaf - fav breads at the moment are a sourdough loaf, olive bread, walnut bread and roasted garlic bread.
Nothing beats a huge chunk of freshly baked bread, dripping in melted butter....
I want to get a bread maker so that I can bake my own posh speciality breads and make pizza dough too.
Fawkes, you don't need to spend money on a bread machine! As dozens of posters on here have indicated - making your own bread by hand is easy!
Easy peasy pizza
1 mug flour
1/4 tsp salt (optional)
1/3rd mug lukewarm water
1 tsp yeast - any sort
Measure the flour and salt - into a bowl. Dissolve the yeast in the mug (dried takes a bit longer than fresh) and add to the flour.
Mix into a soft, squishy dough and flatten and fold it about 20 times.
Using plenty of flour, roll it out into a circle or oval to fit your tray - either line it with baking paper (or brush it with oil and pour flour loosely over the oil - to stop the dough from sticking)
Place the dough on the tray, cover it with your favourite topping, let it rise until the dough gets a bit puffy and bake it at your highest oven setting.
A cheese and tomato topped pizza will set you back all of 70p!
Get your kids to help you if they're old enough - kids and breadmaking are made for one another.

I use breadcrumbs as an ingredient in toppings - for pasta bake, cheese, potato and leek pie, that kind of thing. Also in stuffing.
I make pizza base with bread flour, yeast etc. So much nicer than ready made ones.

love both big thick white bread as well as seeded or flavored bread for toast like bread for sandwiches
The kids use white bread and its a fight to get them to eat crisis or any other type of bread
I try and use bread in other ways and make sandwiches more interesting. I love making bruschetta aswell as chocolate brioche in my bread and butter pudding to make it more exciting. I use torilla wraps for pizza bases as well as baguettes. I also use tortillas instead of pastry for pie bases
Unfortunatley i like bread a bit too much. When i was on maternity leave first thing i made in the morning was a nice chunky piece of toast, or two with lashings of butter. Lunch was toasted ciabatta with cheese and tomato on top. i did eat some healthy stuff too DS will eat crusts or no crust and also loves buttered toast. DH tends to prefer white and i mostly stick to brown.. apart from bacon sandwiches which have to be on white.
bread is my favourite food. nothing beats a yorkshire ham sandwich with a bit of english mustard between two slices of crusty white bread, yum. I make yorkshire tea loaf sometimes full of fruit and a sprinkle of cinnamon. its delicious toasted with thick yorkshire butter, eat it while its there as it doesn't last long in my house. A french stick dipped in melted camembert is a supper treat at the weekend with a glass of wine
or two and a wholemeal roll goes perfect with a veggy soup or broth made with split peas and barley. pizza tastes better when made on a large cob cut in half, toasted and topped with fried onions, mushrooms, sweetcorn, bacon bits and peppers mixed with tomato puree and topped with cheddar cheese.
I have a bread maker. I make mostly whole meal bread and rolls but occasionally make something fancy. We have soup and bread/rolls for lunch most days. Ds's like cheese on toast.
We love bagels and pita bread, because we can freeze them and toast them for breakfast. Daily we have a french stick, which we use to make mini-pizzas, as we cal them, or salmon and cream cheese sandwiches. We eat a lot of bread. I love German bread above all, with seeds, everything from pumpernickel to grey bread to full corn etc.
To my horror my daughter will not eat crusts, but my son does.
We are a bready household but I try to ensure that only one meal a day is bread-based. This is generally lunch. Asda do a lovely onion loaf and a yummy Mediterranean one too. I also like bloomer but it doesn't seem to taste as good as when I was a child. I had a bread maker for a while and made delicious pizza bases and bread rolls in it but I can't be bothered with the faff anymore. The kids sometimes fuss about crusts so I occasionally cut them off as I find there's less waste than if they leave them, along with half the sandwich.
Oh yes, forgot the pizza bread I make if I don't have any pizza bases in the house! On Wednesday the Dc's requested home made pizza, so I used up the stale/dry bread and they loved it more than the pizza bases!

Eggy bread always goes down very well here I'm not sure why but the kids see it as a massive treat much in the same way as pancakes.
Hedgehog bread, onion bread and bagels very popular.
I used to buy my uncut bread from the supermarket, but about a year ago, a bakery opened just around the corner and I started buying my bread from there. It's delicious! I always buy a granary loaf unless they have none left in which case I usually buy a white sandwich loaf or similar.
I must admit to liking a loaf with other things in like sunflower seeds or cranberries, even potato or dried fruits (fruit loaf), but these are expensive so only get into my bag if they are reduced.
We have packed lunches for school here and when working, I take a sandwich too to keep costs down.
The Dc's are 6 and 15. The teen will eat the whole slice, but the youngest dislikes the crusts and I've learned that if I trim them off closely, she eats more than if I leave them on. Yesterday, she had a slice of toast and requested I leave the crust on though, so maybe things will change.
We all love tea cakes and hot cross buns and brioche is a popular snack for after school.
One of my personal favourites is toast with spread and Coopers marmalade ~ nice and strong!
I don't often waste bread, but if I have dried out/stale bread left over, then bread pudding is a favourite.
We like the occasional fried slice too, but that is probably once a year at home as I don't like frying food.
We always like a crusty roll for lunch instead of sliced bread yum. We enjoy brioche for breakfast and all kinds of other breads like raisin bread and crumpets.
I use a slice of bread in my home made meat balls and make my own pizza base using a Jamie Oliver cheats pizza recipe.

We do tend to eat a lot of bread in our household. I did start to use a bread maker for a while but it seems far too time consuming and it was always on! We have sandwiches every day and toast at the weekends, either for an afternoon snack or with breakfast. Always with jam or honey.
Love the smell & taste of fresh bread and particularly like my bread-machine cranberry & orange zest bread. Also delicious made as dough & formed into rolls in a circular cake tin for a 'tear & share' loaf. Great with cheese.
DS1 loves toast for breakfast but will only eat it plain, no butter/jam/ spread of any kind, looks a bit like hes in the work house in the mornings as we hand him dry toasted bread but that's how he prefers it!
We usually do have sandwiches for lunch too - DS1 has ham, I have cheese and DS2 has whatever crusts he can gum on!
I like seeded bread (and fruit ones with a ton of butter and jam!) but with DS2 eating it, we tend to get plain wholemeal as it feels a bit wasteful buying two different loaves that some will go off before we can eat it all
DP likes making bread though when he has the time, this weekend he made chilli bread and beer bread! Definitely not for the kids!
I love bread. All of it. I started making my own bread during the petrol crisis about 10 years ago, I was at university (small, relatively remote rural campus) & for a little while there was no bread at all in the shops, as no deliveries. There was flour though, so I bought that before it all ran out too.
We do use a lot of bread in our house. DH is a cheese toastie addict. He can easily eat 4 slices of toast for breakfast, so a loaf doesn't go far. DD (toddler) won't eat the crusts yet but we don't cut them off unless it's crusty bread. My favourite quick lunch is chopped sundried tomatoes (the semi-dried kind) & a thin sprinkle of either hard goats cheese, or parmesan, briefly toasted on lovely crusty bread - just enough to melt the cheese.
I experimented with making my own bagels a few times, turned out lovely but TBH they were such a faff I stopped bothering.
We do have a bread machine so we make pizza dough but we sometimes have pizza on baguettes as a quick alternative. Easy to do, for a quick pizza sauce just mix some tomato puree, herbs, garlic, tapenade, & a little water or olive oil so it's not too thick. Top with sliced onions, cheese & whatever other toppings you fancy.
One of our favourite recipes is chocolate bread & butter pudding - just make with chocolate chips (or chopped up chocolate) instead of dried fruit.
I also like savoury bread & butter pudding - similar to the sweet. Leave out any sugar, use the same amount of eggs, milk, bread etc as you usually would. However you can spread Marmite on the bread & sprinkle cheese on top. Heavenly!
I love bread! Favourites are oaty/nutty/seeded granary bread whic I use daily for packed lunch sandwiches at work.
Also love a crusty white tiger bread or plain white loaf with just butter on yum!
Regularly have bread as toast for breakfast with peanut butter and banana, honey or poached/scrambled eggs.
Lunches regularly as sandwich, with soup or as a toastie with lots of melted cheese!
My favourite by far was my late Gran's fish finger sandwich with ketchup on top, tartar sauce on bottom, butter and hot crispy fish fingers in the middle
I'm slightly obsessed with making bread - it's been my hobby since the bread strike in 1974, and I'm in the very fortunate position of teaching my hobby.
I make so many different types of bread it's difficult to pick a favourite - however, my Christmas loaf, filled with marzipan and glace cherries, is one of the most popular breads I make:
But the kids in my Family Learning classes love my petit pain au chocolat:
1 mug bread flour
1 dessertspoon sugar
1/3rd mug lukewarm water
1 teaspoon yeast
Mix into a soft, squeezable dough, knead for a little until smooth, divide into 8, squidge a piece of good chocolate into each piece and close the dough around it. Place on a prepared baking sheet seam side down.
Leave to double in size then bake at 220C for between 10-15 minutes. Brush with sugar glaze and leave (as long as you can ) until cool.
Cost: even with good quality chocolate these only cost about 5p each.
And the parents always come down in favour of what I call sizzlers - really a bread wrap around a savoury filling:
Recipe as above only using 1/4 tsp of salt instead of sugar.
Divide the dough into four, then roll each out into circles about 15cm across. Place several slices of tomato or mushroom in a line across the circle and sprinkle a little grated cheese over the top. Bring the sides of the dough up and over the top of the filling and press gently to join together. They should be open-ended. I call them sizzlers because when you open the oven to take them out, you can hear the cheese sizzling! Once again, these are very cheap to make - and great for lunch boxes!

One more thing - anything that can be made with pastry can be made with a bread dough, which is not only cheaper, but easier!
We always have sandwiches for lunch and sometimes have scrambled egg on toast for breakfast. I use bread in a lot of meals, obviously pizzas but I also use breadcrumbs for covering chicken and pasta bakes and also use bread for bread and butter pudding
Me and my dc make simple white jamaican hard dough bread. Flour yeast sugar butter salt and water. We love it and the dc especially love punching the mix.
I just love bread tbh freshly baked with loads of proper butter on
My little boy loved sesame seed bagels.
And we make our own pizza bases using strong bread flour. We also love seedy bread. But all bread is good! :-)

Thick white bread.
We have a bread maker. I love how it scents the house all day long. If we're in a hurry we use seed or granary bread mixes. I always make my own pizza dough - it's properly thin and crispy.
My two favourite bread recipes are rye with caraway seeds or home made focaccia drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with fresh rosemary sprigs and herby sea salt crystals. I sometimes push some olives into the mix too.
Favourite way of eating bread is on its own with butter and some soup rather than as part of a sandwich.
