We're so excited about the fact you can now add photos to threads on MN that we're working with the RAC to run a photo-based competition!

You may have seen RAC's new winter TV ad which features a child RAC patrol getting his friend's vehicle started, and is meant to be a fun way of reminding people that winter driving comes with its own unique challenges. Here's what RAC says about it: "Last year we were called out to 385,000 car problems at home. This winter RAC will give you Free At Home cover if you select our Roadside and Recovery package, so we'll rescue you at the roadside, at home or take you and your car anywhere in mainland UK."

What RAC would like Mumsnetters to do is share photos of your DCs doing one or more of the following:

~ Dressing up as RAC patrol
~ Having fun playing with cars, toy garages etc
~ Just generally enjoying winter at home (we've got our fingers crossed for snow!)

So please upload your best photos - we really want to see your DCs enjoying themselves - maybe they have a favourite toy car you can't get them out of? Or perhaps they're fixated with Rory the Racing Car? Or Top Gear?! Whatever it may be, we'd love to see your photos.

There will be a prize draw open to all MNers who post a photo on this thread - one randomly selected poster will win a £70 ride-on retro Speedster and another will win a children's RAC-style patrol uniform.

RAC will then choose their top 10 from all of the photos posted on this thread. Mumsnetters will be asked to vote for their favourites in a competition running on Mumsnet in December. The 3 MNers whose photos get the most votes will win a Deluxe Metal Woody Wagon Pedal worth more than £250, a £70 ride-on retro Speedsters or a children's RAC-style patrol uniform. This will be done separately to the prize draw on this thread.

To be in with a chance of winning, post your photo(s) on this thread. We'll announce the top 10 by Thurs 6th Dec.

Thanks and good luck!

Can you clarify the situation on copyright. Are photos the same as text ie if we post photos will they then be owned by mumsnet/RAC who will have unlimited rights over use and and publication.?

Do the RAC only employ men then? How does that work with equality legislation? Glad I know so as to avoid them. Odd thing to see on MN. Thought you were more aware than this.

Sorry to moan but does it have to be a voting comp? cos its very hard to compete when some people go all out on begging votes from all and sundry then normal people dont get a chance? more fair if mumsnet team chose or something?

Hello. The answer is: the usual terms apply. The copyright sitch over pictures is the same as over text posts. See our Terms of Use

That said, we have no plans to publish a book of pictures!

And the RAC, or any other sponsor of a Sponsored Discussion, would not have the right to use your pictures without your express and prior permission.

Might be the moment, also, to remind folks that it's wise never to post stuff up on a Google-indexed website such as ours that you wouldn't want anyone and everyone to read/see.

Yes cos after all only men can fix cars. Women might break a nail or something Hmm

Sorry. Obviously, we mean "dressing up as a member of the RAC patrol team".

No sexism intended. But thanks for pulling us up.

Oh for goodness sake TheOtherHelenMumsnet and HelenMumsnet thank you for putting on the competition, while we baseball jumping on the sexist band wagon can I add, I have been rescued many many many times unlucky with cars does not cover it my friends have and family, I have seen other people on the reads being rescued and my db was a recovery driver, never once have I ever seen a lady doing this job, or heard of a lady having this job. That is not to say we are incapable, or to say that there aren't some lady recovery drivers out there somewhere but mostly on the whole it is a man doing it, now ffs it was a mis type, I'm sure they have learnt their lessons now could you lay off it and let's have some fun with car and winter photos!

Hear hear Princess. Ever get the feeling that there are folk out there just looking for a mistype so they can get their knickers, oops UNDERGARMENTS (don't want to be a caused of being sexist), in a twist???

Surely it would be best to email the photo? Most people wouldn't want photos of their children on a thread, but happier within the members-only profile pages.

Sincere apologies for any offence caused - RAC wanted us to mention that they do have female patrol too, so have amended the OP to reflect that. Sorry!

Exactly Sleepy let's not let a bandwagon roll by empty eh???

Now, HQ is there a way of posting my fabulous and clearly prize winning picture from the mobile site? Or do I need the desk top site? I have never used the picture threads before so not too sure how they work.
