After a 3 year wait on the autism assessment waiting list, we finally got the diagnosis that eldest DS aged 11 has significant aspergers. I have known for years that he has been 'different' but I've always said Im not the professional, maybe I was a shit mother and he wasn't autistic, and couldn't control his outbursts.
Well today has knocked me in a way I never thought it would. On one side I am ecstatic he (and us) will have access to help, but I never thought he was aspergers, and being handed a leaflet on 'special needs children' hit me harder than I thought it would... Im a bit nervous of whats next and the future, got kinda used to living in the world of 'what of' and 'wait until the assessment'. I think Im just in shock - Im not asking for advice per se, just need an outlet x
