School have suggested an ed psych assessment for DS. He's in Y10. We jumped through all the hoops with CAMHS and they came up with nothing, just that he was choosing his behaviour and has ASD traits.
I said we'd pay privately to get it done, so they've booked it for September- by which time he'll be in Y11.
It's going to cost £600.
Is there much point? I'm desperate to understand him and get him to understand what he needs to do, but as he isn't planning on any further education and is hoping for an apprenticeship I'm not sure what the outcome will be.
If they ask for further assessment for eg ADHD I'm not sure we can afford it.
Am I just throwing money at a problem, or could it be worth it? I'll do anything to try and restore a bit of harmony in our house and for him to thrive, but we've tried so much and got nowhere. I'm at the end of my tether.
What can we expect from this assessment and what value could it have long term for him?
