Our SN area is not a substitute for expert advice. While many Mumsnetters have a specialist knowledge of special needs, if they post here they are posting as members, not experts. There are, however, lots of organisations that can help - some suggestions are listed here. If you've come across an organisation that you've found helpful, please tell us. GCSE choices and CoPE

We're in the process of making subject choices for my ASD son, who is not prepared to engage in any discussions about it at all. He will study all the compulsory topics plus Computer Science, which will be his strong subject. He's also been good at History up to now, thanks to exceptional recall for facts, so this seems another good option to try.

His support staff have also raised the subject of the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness. Does anyone have any experience of this course? I'm not sure whether or not it has much recognition from tertiary education or employers, or whether there are other benefits to doing it.

If it's not going to be worthwhile, I wonder if we might be better off with him doing fewer subjects and being less stressed.
