Hello,

Please can anyone recommend any mainstream primary schools in Leeds that have a good reputation for being supportive of children on the autistic spectrum? If you have a recommended specialist autism school this would also help as there is always the chance this may be more suitable in the future but our son is on the high functioning end so mainstream more likely.

Private message me if you think it more appropriate.

My son was diagnosed last September with Autism Spectrum Disorder and we are currently going through the Statement of Special Educational Needs. He is due to start primary school September 2015 but we need to find a school for him and visit by the end of this September! We are flexible on location as we will be moving there and integrating into that community, wherever that may be.

We have heard good things about Leeds but would need to visit schools and talk to schools SENCOs (special educational needs coordinators) and teachers before deciding if we think it would suit our son but we can't do this until we have some recommendations. There are a lot of schools in Leeds!

I would really appreciate some recommendations. Private messages would probably be more appropriate.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Hopefully you can help.

Hi,
I don't seem to be able to send you a private message, but was just wondering if you found a school for your son. Our son was diagnosed with ASD a few weeks ago, and we are looking into provision for him (he will be starting in September 2016, so we're in the same position you were in when you posted this). If it's not too much trouble, and if indeed you get this, I'd be really grateful if you wouldn't mind letting me know if you had any luck, I'm feeling quite stuck at the moment.
