DS starts his new school on Monday. They are hoping by Christmas he will be there majority of the time!

It been a long hard slog and 4 years of isolation but hopefully slowly my family and I can rebuild our lives.

No tribunal needed from special school to independent specialist placement.

Well done dev, wish him - and you - all the best for his start on Monday. Really hope he settles well - each day at a time eh. Keep us posted on how he gets on. You're as much a part of this board as anyone, don't stay away! cake and also wine at this time on a Saturday night wink

devientenigma Sat 05-Oct-13 21:20:43

Thanks bialy, the hardest thing they will have in the beginning is getting him to leave the house, I do feel so worried about but tbh can't wait till he's out the door like everyone else going to school, even if it isn't all day.

ouryve Sat 05-Oct-13 21:31:01

Do let us know how he gets on. I love success stories, as they help keep me sane on down days.

brilliant news dev, and good to have you back

devientenigma Sun 06-Oct-13 08:14:33

Wow, thanks everyone.

He doesn't know yet, he will just get all anxious about it so we are just going to tell him (if he asks) that we are having visitors. The school he's going to tell all the kids it's not school and they don't do work.

Still dreading it, I hope it doesn't take him forever to like it. After all it's a personalised curriculum in his own classroom with minimum interaction with peers.

I had his annual review with his old school on Friday. I let the heads know how much the last 7 year has affected my family as a whole, how we had missed out on siblings childhoods with dealing with one child and how they themselves missed out due to his needs and that something should of been done earlier. The deputy didn't like it and left. If they think that's the last of me they are wrong!! Although hopefully things will be sorted for DS they can't treat parents like this so I am going to make official letters of complaint.

namechangeregular Sun 06-Oct-13 09:01:08

I'm sure he'll get to like it in time - it will be so much better for him than the last place. How typical that the deputy head walked out when you expressed your views - I have had similar responses and even threats after complaining. Stick with it as, although it's too late for your ds, it may make a difference for other children in the future.
My ds is now at a specialist school and the difference in approach is incredible We had some ups and downs to start with but now can see the progress he's making.
It's a new start for you too and I hope it all goes well.

streakybacon Sun 06-Oct-13 09:08:05

sweetteamum Sun 06-Oct-13 10:25:27

Well done to you and your ds. I hope his first day goes well. I'm sure you'll be nervous. But in time it'll be worth all this stress you've had to go through.

Bluebirdonmyshoulder Sun 06-Oct-13 10:25:34

I'm sure you've been 110% instrumental in this progress so well done.

chocnomore Sun 06-Oct-13 10:31:08
