I am applying for a teaching assitant job at a special needs school for children with severe speechh & language dificulties.
The job is for a new class of 3 children with ASD who have failed in mainstream ( well mainstream was not the right enviroment for them). There will be one teacher and 2 teachers assistants. Any advice on what I should put on my application form? I have worked with special needs children before and have used makoton. I actully worked with a child who is currently attending this school.as some of you know I have a daughter with dyspraxia do you think this will be relevent? Thanks

I also meant to say to all you mothers of ASD children. What sort of things would you say would help your children at school.

yes put in your personal experience with your own child as its very applicable as you know how it REALLY is. talk about visual aids for the children, social stories, pecs, makaton, picture sequencing cards to explain to the children what will be the routine of the day..obviously very important the routine of the day , how calm you are and sensitive to their needs .hope this helps

Dh once applied for a job at a playscheme, it said it was fulltime, but when he phoned about it they said it was holidays only, BUT they did say that his experience of having two disabled kids was better than any exams or whatever. He still wants to do that kind of work so when we move he will be looking again.
