Those using a gf/cf diet - calcium supplement?

If anyone can recommend a calcium supplement which is suitable for the gf/cf diet I'd be very grateful. We are avoiding soya too.

well we were using NF formulations liquid calcium magnesium. They have now discontinued and I found another one but haven't tried it. here :

we used fortified rice milk for a while. not strictly compatible, i know, but wanted to do something at the time.

now dd1 is drinking buffalo milk (well, I say drinking - she has it on her cereal) - it's an A2 milk, and seems to agree with her ok. it apparently has higher calcium content too.

have you thought abut A2 milks? sorry if you have tried and they are not suitable.

I went to a talk last year by Mike Tettenbaum (think that was his name, probably spelled wrong, though!). he gave a good talk on how we actually need a LOT less calcium than has been bandied about by the milk marketing board, and cited a study doen by the osteoperosis society (sorry, my spelling is really up the spout - dd2 keeps interrupting!) which followed eldery women in Asia, who had had no so-called calcium rich products as we view them in the west. the conclusion of the study was that regular weight-bearing exercise was more important than calcium supplememts iirc.

I have substituted cows milk for goats milk which seems to work well

I haven't been able to source any A2 milk in my part of the world so far, but will look into it again. It's certainly something I'd consider. If I understand correctly, A2 milks are:
goats
buffalo
guernsey cow

Is that right?

I think I may have found some long life goats milk a while ago that I might be able to get shipped from england although it will cost a bomb.

Can you ask the Manager of your local supermarket as it is becoming a very popular product. In the UK, most supermarkets stock fresh goats milk

They don't sell any kind of A2 milk in supermarkets or health food shops here, or almond milk. One supermarket did stock goats milk for a while but stopped as they said it wasn't popular. The only thing I can find is coconut milk but i don't think it's that high in calcium (can't find any real figures on it).

My husband went to the pharmacy yesterday (the pharmacies are a state run monopoly called Apoteket in sweden) and they refused to sell him anything saying that we need to see a doctor/dietician to get the correct doseage or we could give my son kidney failure, so now my husband is very against me buying the liquid product staryeyed linked to on goodness-direct. He will call on Monday but last time we had to wait for 3 months to see a dietician so I hope it won't take as long this time (if so I'll try to get hold of a private one, but there's not as many private practitioners in sweden, particularly for children).

Just made some almond milk which hasn't gone down too well, but we'll give it another go tonight before he goes to bed. I'm not sure that that's very high in calcium either though as a big proportion of the nuts don't end up in the milk.

You could buy a goat and milk it yourself!!!!

Funny you should say that but my FIL has a 'winter home' a few hours away with a neighbour who has a goat farm. My husband thinks he might make goat milk so we're going to check that option out!

The goat farmer came good - hurray! Let's hope he likes and can tolerate it, failing that the dietician said 600mg of calcium supplements a day. Need to check with the manufacturer if the ones in sweden are gf/cf or else I will order from the goodness direct website.
