toilet training my DS son

Hi i am looking for advice and tips on toilet training my son who is 10 and has Down's syndrome .i have tried before ,so to has his special needs school without success. He has poor speech ,but can understand us and make his needs known with his speech and makaton signing. Thanks.

Hi jules, sorry, no advice either. My little dd, has DS but is only 3.7! Unfortuntely, I don't have any contacts with parents of 'older' children and even for me, it feels like I am alone in our little problems at time IYSWIM.

What sort of stage is he at? Are you using any prompts, can you bribe him with a reward...

Don't know if you should do anything different for a 10 year old or if the principles are all the same (in theory of course!). There have been threads before, sorry I can't link but if you switch the section to Alpha and find "T" or try the dreaded archvie search you might find something useful. Good luck.

Hi Jules, sorry no tips here either, I have a 3.5 yr old with DS so will watch this thread to see if I can pick up any tips for when our time comes. Good luck with it. TC x
