SN children

Is this cause for concern or am I over-reacting?

My DS is 3 with suspected ASD and last weekend had a bit of a bug(high temp, sleeping all the time). Once his temp dropped, he wanted to have a nap every afternoon which I put down to a post viral fatigue. My main concern is that he has suddenly developed a whiny tantrumy attitude which is really out of character (normally a placid boy). Due to speech delay, he is obviously finding it hard to articulate what's wrong. He is also suddenly crying for no reason. Do you think I have cause to worry or is this him reaching the "terrible twos" slightly later?

I think when you have a child with suspected ASD or ASD then you can tend to see everything as part of autism. DS2 (NT) goes through odd phases now and then but without the ASD stamp, I really don't stop to think about them that much - He is nearly 3 and has developed domineering tendencies !

Thanks for that. It's difficult to distinguish what may be the start of regression and I suppose I am hyper sensitive to all unusual behaviours now!
P.S
I meant to reply to your yahoo group message sorry. You just reminded me!

Hi, dd2 has been poorly with a virus, she's on the mend but still whiny, i think its because they get extra fuss when they are ill (extra cuddles, we let them eat what they want and we spend more time playing with them) and then when they are feeling better we back off a little and they don't understand why.

Dd2 is often like this after being ill, last time it took a few weeks to return to herself.

that makes sense Marne. I was beginning to wonder if I had inadvertantly fed him gluten as he is still very lethargic and whiny. It is also 3 months since he started on GF diet so wonder if that has an impact?

Yes, dd2 has been very clingy and whiny today, lets hope it doesn't last too long.
