Anyone knows of it?
I asked if they could do the CARS , and therapist said as DS is nearly 4, the Gilliam autism rating scale would be more appropiate and that it was a newer test that the CARS.

Anyone with experience of it?
Thanks ladies.

DS1 has had the GARS test. It was quite useful and does not take a long time to do. We got a score of 89. I did find it online once but not sure where now.

Thanks,
just wanted to make sure the test was suitable for all levels of asd, as DS is mildly affected, with language been the biggest issue.
Will have to wait and see.

I think it is fine for high level ASD - there is a language part of it for verbal children and some of questions are for high level issues.

A few sites on line seem to mention AS so I would agree HFA but I know some use it for all.

Who is coming from BIBIC

Cheers ladies that's reassuring.

BobbingforP, a man called Graham will be our therapist. I don't know his surname.
Do you know him?

yep, we met him.

You will be fine- first person to pick up ds3's asd two years or so ago. Could tell so many things about him.

He is (or was) their asd guru

Hi mysonben, did they offer to visit at home, or did you ask?

I spoke to Graham - what a lovely guy. I would trust everything he says.

I understand that the CARS is much more crude and usually indicates that a child should be assessed for a dx, rather than tell anything useful. It is a bit black and white. You come out not autistic, mild-moderate, or severe.

The GARS as I understand it, is a bit more informative and actually rates each of the triads. I've had both done and feel that whilst the CARS says my ds is severe, the GARS is more optimistic by saying that the likelihood of my ds having autism is 'very likely'. Subtle difference but one is more friendly I feel.

Good luck mysonben. We have our two day assessment in December. How did you get a home visit?

Thank you for replies.

Well we had booked a 2 days assessemnet , then about 10 days later Bibic rang me to offer a home visit as they just got some new funding to allow therapists to travel to neighbouring counties i was told.
So we accepted the offer , and voila!

The visit is next wednesday, will update of course.

Oh, yes, do, they sounded so lovely on the phone and I think it is such a great thing to do for those of us stuck waiting for useless NHS depts to diagnose!
