Sorry more questions about statementing

• Dd2 is due to start school next September, if i apply for a statement now will it be sorted by next September?

• I would like dd2 to go to main stream but we also have the option of a great SN school, would she still need a statement for SN school?

I havn't got a clue about statementing but i have been told (by the dep head of the sn school) that if dd2 is to go into main stream for it to work she will need the right help (1:1 by someone who knows what they are doing).

Any advice please?

I would love for dd2 to be able to go to school with her sister (so would dd1) but i need to get the help sorted ASAP. I havn't even spoken to the main stream school about dd2 yet but i feel they would welcome her there as they have with her sister (who has Aspergers).

You could get a statement sorted by next Sept but start now Marne. The LEA told me - don't bother with a statement, he can just go to the special school, but my experience at special schools has been crap so I wanted more choice. IPSEA website has formula letters to get the statementing ball rolling.

2. Here, all special schools require children to be statemented - I can't think that it's any different nationally.
   
   
3. totally agree. You could make sure that there are details in the Statement about how much training the TA would have to have, and experience, and if the school are receptive to SN, mainstream could well work.

I would also say hopefully yes by next September but start the process now.

In this area of Essex a statement is a mandatory requirement for entry into a special school.

If one to one support is required the surest way of getting this is via a Statement. No other plans will make such provision. Also a Statement is legally binding unlike other plans.
