Have you any notes from those grim days when you were preparing your case that you would be happy to share?

We are starting ABA in a couple of weeks, but expecting the proposed statement in less than a month. I also have two under 3s so the time constraints are really stressful. In addition, the SENDIST rules have changed and I have to submit all of my evidence when I appeal.

So, - any short cuts, signposting or just helpful information/arguments that you have come across or cases I would be extremely grateful for.

Many tia.

Hi there, glad to hear you're starting ABA now, well done for getting a programme off the ground! I know how very stressful it all is, so look after yourself, join a yoga class or take up jogging or something like that! Seriously!

Of course I'm happy to send you my case statement, will CAT you my email address. I think in our case the most important argument was that my DS had been on an ABA programme for over a year before starting school, and the LEA and ms school wanted us to stop it abruptly and send him to school full-time. The tribunal ordered that he was to have a lengthy transition period (9 months) during which he would gradually increase his attendance at school and decrease the home sessions. They also ordered that the tutors could go into school with him, and upped his LSA support hours from 15 to 20 per week.

It's worked well for him - he's in school full time now (in Y2), doing very well academically, and very happy at school. Still struggling with the social aspect, but making steady progress (although I find ABA a bit rubbish for advanced social skills - so we're now doing more RDI-type stuff at home - he still does 3-4 sessions with his tutors after school every week).
