Well ds Mri results are in and had a meeting , seems that ds laungage or lack of is not just down to the oral dyspraxia .Turns out at some point they reckon probably befor the birth ds had a blood clot and the part of area that controlls speech is completley destroyed which would explain whe he snever done any sound other than uh.

There is also some damage to area that controls movement as well ,That i can handle but was the realastion today that ds is likely to never speak and no amount of speech therapy will make any differnace to his inablity to verbally communicate

Report
brokenspacebar · 17/09/2009 18:54

((Phoenix)) - that is so much to take in.

Report
Phoenix4725 · 17/09/2009 19:15

no thankfully he does not ask though guess that might happen in future atm he just accepts it but with the Ld he is mor elike 2.6 not 4.2.
Knowing not going to ever hear mum or I love you though he can sign both but you know what i mean

I am going give it few days then gear myself up for fight for ACC seems pointless waiting and seeing now

Hi phoenix

What thoroughly cr@p news. I know its exactly what you were hoping it wasnt. Im so sorry.

But on a very very dim brightish note, you have an answer, a root cause. I know you wish it wasnt and im gutted too, i know how much it meant to you. I guess one day he will ask why too, and at least you have an answer for him.

But thanks to you and your hard work (and of his of course too) that he can sign and you havent waited and wasted time.

XXX

Sorry you've had upsetting news.

Like misscut says, at least you know now, and you can work from there, and build on the other communication methods you've already started. My dd2 can't speak but we all know what she's trying to tell us!

this must have been very unexpected, phoenix. your instincts about your ds's leaning towards signing have been right, though. hopefully he has a lot more progress to make in this area.

So sorry you have had difficult news. ((HUGS))
Can you get written reports to state what ds will need to help fight for suitable communication support?
Take care -Magso

What a shock Phoenix. Thinking of you.......

Good luck the AAC. DS1 is 10 now and I'm certain will never speak - believe me it does get a lot easier to accept with time, although it does take time of course. And there's so much AAC choice now. Here's a link to AAC posts on my blog. Including a couple of entries on Communicaton Matters. Are you a member? They are really very helpful and have some free memberships for parents/AAC users. They also run free roadshows where you can go and look at all the devices.
