Well went into what will be ds school today and what a feck up .There makton training consisted of 3 hrs in total , his lsa and class teacher has had no more , or no experaince of using makton, pecs no training for pecs either or working with a child with Ld and language problems.

They are all talkingmaybe more training february time and that ds will just hve to bare with them whiles they try to communicate,

despite me saying that if they cant comunicate with ds he will shut down to them to everything and will go of in his own little world ignoring everyone and it would take them months for him to trust them .

They have no software their visual timetables are thrown together add hoc from cli part his lsa had never herd of now and next boards,,They did not even realise that ds uses a wheelchairand will be wearing afros or fact he cant sit on stool due to his low tone and thats what they use at luinch time , despite me keeping them update.
No date when speech therapist or even who will be his , to go in for their termly visit to set up a program that one i am taking Lea to tribunal overlack of quality sspeech theraphy

So basically I am going to have to go in and stay with ds every day doing their job for them , inorder that ds will not regress ,I worked so hard with him to get to where he is now and dont want to lose him to his own litte world again

Oh Phoenix - that's dreadful. Can you call an emergency meeting with head and others involved?

Phoenix, thats shit, they will be failing him if they do not improve things for him.
Give parent partnership a ring, see what their local support worker can offer the school?
Do you have a key worker or amily co-ordinator that can give them a kick up the backside.
Contact the head of the local SALT dept & tell them he is going to be going in to the school where none of the staff are trained to communicate with him & he/they need emergency intervention.
OT needs to get in there & do an emergency assessment of his needs, if they do not have adequate seating for him he will not be safe.

Do not take the responsibility away from them by going in to school & doing their job for them.
Area SENCO also needs to be aware of the lack of provision in the school for a disabled child & they are failing to make resonable adjustments to allow him to access the curriculum - His basic right!

Yes but they at least have to be trained up to HIS level, if he has over 100 signs & 2 to 3 wrd phrases if they cannot understand his needs then they are failing him & their minimal training is inadequate - they are therefore complying with his statement.

Phoenix, there is a private SALT with lots of child, ASD, makaton & PECS experience.
I think he is based Essex/Suffolk borders, I'll dig out his details, I did consider using him for ds2 but the NHS salt stepped in.
Will try to get my old brain to remember his name

sorry the meeting was so crappy and you now don't have confidence in the school.

Phoenix, so sorry to hear of your troubles.
If it is any consolation, I really doubt people are being deliberately obstructive. It's the fault of a useless outdated system and overworked professionals bogged down by menaingless paper exercises. Still, that isn't your problem.

The Makaton Trust have specific training pathways for professionals. I suggest you give them a ring .I am sure thay would be very supportive about perhaps writitng to yuor LEA to say what is on offer is not good enough. It would carry a lot of weight.

(They are a charity so perhaps you could offer to donate in return for this?)

That is crap. We had similar when ds1 started mainstream. They trained one person, she left the next week, no more money for training. No-one PECS trained in the school.

Is there another school option locally?

sadly we hit problem already , ds cant comminicate as they are not up to his level of makton, no pecs nothing ,I went in first day and they kept having to ask me what he wanted, was saying etc. Then they did story with actions they opbviously not thought through as the action was saying something else to ds .One point they was talking about dancing but ds was seeing sign for helicopters. Also they was like oh he amuses himself well and enjoys playing on his own .Im like yes hes given up already and is of in his own world if you don`t engage ds he does this ,

Till salt gets in end of month only way its going to work be me going in every day and staying with him

sorry this school is proving as bad as you fear, agree with givemesleep, this situation is utterly unsatisfactory. If you didn't go in, would your DS get frustrated, or just go even more into himself? not a great sign that they don't seem worried about him being by himself so much....

Sadly Phoenix, you have the same problem we had with pre school... ds2's reaction is always to withdraw & become more passive.
The preschool LEA lady actuallt told me as he wasn't a problem to the class/teacher he would not get extra provision.

It is a very short sighted & ill educated approach of the LEA profs that they do not see extreme passiveness (if thats a word) as a behavioural issue.
Thankfully we have a fantastic paed, psych & OT who stepped in & he now has all the support he needs.

Have you got any profs who can kick arse & get this sorted.

I know you are doing whats best for your ds in the short term but you being there really is giving them any easy ride.
