I want to get DS some social stories & started on PECS. I know you can make your own social stories and trust me I am not rich and wanting to throw money around but my time is already stretched absolutely to the limit. I just can not add another thing on. I work 3 or 4 nights a week, plus my writing, plus caring for DS, plus housework, shopping, bills etc I am lucky if I sleep by 2am for 5 hours so I really can not be doing with making loads of stuff from scratch. I am already going to have to make some of it I assume but what I can buy I want to - perfect but cheap!

I'm looking at this on ebay and the seller has a whole shop of ASD related products so what am I best off getting do you think??

dont know if you done it but think the best money i spent was on doing the 2 day pecs course

I might have some bits lying around if you tell me sort of thing your looking for, we tred ds with pecs but he prefers makton and does not need pecs as such for social stories .

If you want emotions I can email you the chart we use, similar to the smileys. This is used by the learning disability federation.

I have no experience of buying stuff in, but a good place for free resources is www.do2learn.com.

Upload Boardmakers free trial, they have loads of picture symbols and you can make your own scheduals, charts etc.

There are some PECS stuff on e-bay, i bought the food board to take on holiday and a toilet training schedual.

Social stories are best written individually for the issues the child needs to deal with. You need a book or website by Carol Gray, who invented the 'genre'.

Also try this site. It's got a good explanation of how to write a social story.

... Younger children will need pictures inserting, and you may need to read the stories a few times over a few days, then as 'reminders' before an experience to help the social story to do its work.
