anyone else out there getting beaten up daily?? i'm seriously at my wit's end. my son, now 12, is diagnosed with PDD-NOS, non-verbal, dna testing in process for chromosome 17 abnormalities, all of which seem to equal aggression. He's been on risperidone for a couple of years, takes melatonin at night which has improved sleep pattern, ie he doesn't wake up 7 times a night but sleeps through till 3am and then is up for the day. he doesn't seem angry as such, but just likes hurting me and others, so difficult to go anywhere there are people! no special schools in this isolated piece of Canada and regular school doesn't work well for him. he's also in a wheelchair since an accident in 2005 - gotta love those childcare workers with no common sense.
just wondering if anyone has any ideas, and keen to be in contact with other mums of sn children. also i'm English and very very homesick.
thanks for listening

Hi Mutisa and welcome to the SN board. Sorry you are going through such a tough time with your son. In England people can arrange some form of respite care via social workers (so at least parents can get a break), not sure if you have a similar system in Canada. My little boy has different problems so can't really advise on your problems with aggression, but hopefully some people will be around who can give you some better advice than me!

hi TotalChaos and sadminster - thanks so much for reaching out, and for the welcome. Feeling better now (my son is asleep!) and I know that being stuck over here when I want to be over there makes me feel worse about our situation. I'm sure you both have a lot to deal with too. take care of yourselves
