Welcome to the SN board! There are loads of experienced posters with children dx with ASD here. I think it is fair to say that any dx of any type is a shock, so be kind to yourself.

How old is your DD?

Have you heard of DLA? It provides extra money to help your child, so it is worth applying.

i was also going to say how old is dd?

its always a shock to find out there may be something wrong but it also opens alot of doors from knowing this which can only ever benefit the child in the long run as early intervention is always best

it will take you a while to accept but you do and you will as your child is your child regardless and you love them regardless

my ds was dx at 3 and he is 4 now huge difference in him from when he was dx and i accepted pretty much straight away as new from 2 there was something not right he was speech delayed and had few other things i couldn't put my finger on that wasn't right

but it helped to understand him better and i became a better mummy for it as i didnt get so frustrated trying to get him to act and dot hings nt children would do i learnt to accept him and be proud of everything he could do

its great on here for advise but you could also look into any sn groups in your area that hold courses for parents and children also good for play so children can be around others and for you to have someone to socialise with who will understand you

DLA can provide extra income to pay for any additional help you may need to pay out for or to buy any educational items for child
here

hope you are feeling ok? i was pretty roller coaster until real dx was down on paper and then it wasa case of just making sure i was doing all i could to help and understand ds as difficult as he can be he is my little buddy nothing changed he is still my adorable boy

my dd is 5, i already get dla for her highest for personal care and lowest for mobility as she has SLB low muscle tone major sensory issues plus a lot of other unexplaned stuff. i think the dx of asd is a shock because it had been ruled out in january and she has had a lot of genetic tests done ( still waiting for results) and i had really thought it was a genetic syndrome she had as she also has quite a few dysmorphic features- so i was totally not excpecting asd, i am feeling slighty relived that we now know what were dealing with but shocked all the same.
