How about getting one of those straps that attach to the hat and you tighten up with a slide think (/kimi gets technical) DP also a glorious red head has one for when we go sailing.

to be honest i think its more the type of headrest she has, ds's is more shaped and sits round the bottom part of his head and over his shoulders so hats arent a problem.
its an otto bock lateral control headrest

ds has an extensive collection of hats and MUST have one on if its raining as he reckons if he gets his face wet he will melt! grin

Sainsburys are doing a similar to Baby banz one ( own brand) in that Sun suit type fabric. Probadly pink and blue versions knowing sainsburys. They look like they fit teh back of teh head quite snuggly.

pirate bandanas in floral. both mine are obsessed with them - and if you have a clever mil like mine, she'll make matching dribble catchers wink

Have given up on hats after losing a dozen of them. Now I do what they do back in Italy on the beach - I just make sure that DS's hair is wet/damp at all times (keep a bottle with me and ignore horrified looks from other mums). To be combined with face water-proof sunscreen I guess if you're worried about sunburn as well as just too much sun on one's head
