Ok, this could turn out to be a great day or the worst day ever.

We are taking the girls to Studland beach tomorrow, dd1 hates walking on sand (i have bought her some beach shoes) and hates the water, Dd2 loves the water so much that i will spend most my day chasing her as she runs for the water.

How can i get them to sit still for a while when dh and i relax ?

What can i take with me to keep them busy?

I will be taking buckets and spades as dd2 is happy to dig, dd1 wont do much that involves touching the sand so i need to take something for her to do.

We have a small blow up boat which could work well as a paddling pool, dh will have to get it out of the shed as there will be spiders living in it. I will try and find some toys to put in it. Thanks Phoenix.

I second the paddling pool idea. Maybe take 2? Fill one with some water and toys, the other with just toys, and voila you have two little person spaces . Hope you have a nice time!

I don't think I'd recommend anything electronic near sand as it gets everywhere no matter how careful you are, and I remember how upset dd was by the sad demise of her furby .

The beach? Eek! Scratchy sand, wet water, and when you walk on the sand, it moves! and then it gets everywhere. And the sunlight sparkles off the sea which is totally mesmerising and I forget what I'm supposed to be doing.

I take along huge very soft blankets/sheets to sit on, on the driest possible sand so t doesn't stick. And very very soft towels. And suntan lotion that is non-sticky. And a beach umbrella as I can't cope with hats or sunglasses very easily. But the seashells and pebbles are brilliant - so much fun to be had from organising them, putting them in patterns, finding the best ones, etc.

J (autism and ADHD) loves the beach. It's his happiest place ever. He spends so much time playing with the sand and 'chasing waves'. He loves putting sand in a bucket, tipping it out and starting all over again. Sometimes it's the little things that entertain them!

Well were home,
We filled dd2's boat with water which she played in, last year she was fine with the sand on her feat (unlike dd1), this year she would only walk on it with her socks and shoes on , she didn't moan though, she loved playing with her toys in the boat full of water and happily sat on the towels and me whilst eating a picnic. Dd1 actually managed to walk on the sand this year without having a complete meltdown over having sand on her feet [proud emotion].

I am now nursing a sun burnt Dh who wouldn't put sun cream on his legs as its too sticky .

Glad you had a good time. When you posted yesterday I was still recovering from taking ds to the beach the day before, but I didn't want to tell you that at the time .

Glad you had a good time on the beach.
The sea is the only place ds2 will actually take his socks off! He will only walk on the wet sand, but he loves being in the water. However, we still have screaming abdabs at bath time.
