I Forced Him Off The Computer...To Go Outside...and He Broke His HAND.

Well....as u know i mentioned the other day that i have been told that I allow my boys to use the computer laystations etc way too much (but it's ok for their kids to play football for 12 hrs a day etc....)

So on sunday i vowed they would go out...and out they did go....alex and leigh wre driving me mad and i just wanted a break. so i asked tom to take them off for a while and they went off with £2 for sweets etc...alex on his tractor and leigh on his 3 wheel scooter....and tom 'disjointedly' scooting along on his .

so an hour later they return- tom having tangled his trouser leg in leigh's scooter wheel...and as the'd decided to pay a visit to the local BMX track...he had gravel embeddded in his hand...and he ached...but we just thought he'd bruised his wrist.

so yesterday we noticed that he was not using his right hand at all....so took him to A&E...and discovered he'd broken a bone in his hand.

SO...........
A) PROOF that like it or not....he is better of on his PC!!!!! (i am never again going to force him out- he could do far worse than break a bone...and i feel gulity as sin about this )
B) PROOF that i was wrong to 'use' him to give me respite.
C)PROOF...that he really has a high pain threshold- he broke his arm 2 years ago and didn't feel that either

Mrs F your poor DD, I definitely agree, you have to do what works in your family. Too much T.V./Computers may not be ok for most kids but practicalities of homelife for all the family have to be taken into consideration with us SN mums!!

I was told at a recent ASD workshop to limit T.V. and Computer use to a max of 20mins per day!!! So I have spent a fortune on 2 lots of swimming lessons twice weekly for ds and dd, and ds has started football coaching too!! I am exhausted, dd embarrassed ds whilst watching his first f.ball coaching session that he burst out crying! and then dd yanked on ds's hair and then attacked me in the changing room (much to the disapproval of other mums) when they got out from their swimming lessons because ds had apparently had 1 minute longer in the pool than her!!

Go with whatever makes you and ds's life easiest

Poor Tom. The Forgetfuls have been having a really tough time of it just lately, haven't you?

It's really not your fault that he hurt himself, MrsF. No way could you have predicted that! My boys tend to have most of their accidents inside the house so it's a bit like me blaming myself for not sending them outside.

Will he be okay with his SATs with only one hand in use? Poor Tom.

Sorry to hear this MrsF, but DON'T BLAME YOURSELF!! These things happen, and none of us would wrap them up in cotton wool. Maybe he felt wonderful being asked to 'mind' the other two for a while, even if it did end in A+E? does his fracture need any treatment other than immobilisation (ha!) for a bit?

Poor love. You can't blame yourself though, it could have happened anywhere - he could even have fallen of his computer chair! You can't have boys and not expect broken bits from time to time.

But whatever you think - kids do injur themselves - indoors as well as out - don't stop him doing things outside just because of one unfortunate accident.

MrsF, sounds like you are having a crap time at the moment Just goes to show that you know them best. Don't feel guilty, easier said than done I know.

Yeah, don't feel guilty. Thinking of you at the moment. If that's the way your DD winds down (when, as you say, other boys may play football or whatever) then sod the 20 minute a day rule, or whatever it is.
ps Monica 2, can your fabulous DD come and make cakes with me during football practice? Isn't it at Bhasvic?

Don't feel bad. Accidents do happen and with three boys you are bound to get a good few visits to A&E.
