Jade Goody parks in disabled bay...

Anyone seen this week's OK! There is a pic of Jade Goody clearly parked in a disabled bay which OK! dismisses with 'what a naughty girl!'.

I know I am in danger of getting OTT and militant about this issue but I don't think that is an acceptible attitude for a magazine to be portraying. It is sending a message that it is just a bit cheeky and not that it is totally unfair and inconsiderate. Grrr

will buy it then sned scathing email to them and ask why she hasnt been fined if there is evidence she wrongly used a disable bay

It was Tesco's Romford where she parked.

I will email OK! too.

Me too. It's not OTT or militant at all - it makes me so angry when I see half the disabled bays at the supermarkets filled with cars without blue badges.

I think this is disgusting. As someone who works with disabled people on a daily basis it is amazing the number of times I do assessments and this crops up in conversation. Someone even once had the cheek to say that a customer in a wheelchair should park further away as she "had wheels" to get her to the door which is quicker than walking!!
As a disability assessment centre we have a warden who patrols and monitors the car park and any users in disabled spots not displaying badges get clamped and charged £10 on the spot.

Mind you, it gives me an excuse to purchase a copy of OK... I need to see the picture I'm complaining about.

What are the relavant laws governing the use of disabled bays?

Report
Marina · 29/04/2005 12:03

Not sure but I've just sent a mail pointing out JG was breaking the law - anyone got chapter and verse on this.
Resisted temptation to say exactly what I think of Jade at the best of times

I know that bays are reserved for blue badge holders 24 hrs a day seven days aweek and many councils can now impose penalty charge notices to anyone who is not a blue badge holders using the bays.

blue badge bays are always for disabled badge holders. parking in one without correct docs can result in a fine of up to £1000

I don't think the law applies if this bay was on private land (tesco's car park).

Tesco should have some comment to make however, anyone want to contact them? I'm at work, so can't do it myself today

Email to Tescos too, as it was on private property, not council maintained road, that she was parked. Another excuse to buy OK this week, then. Last week it was to read about Jordan's son - had no idea he was as disabled as he is.

I think society is still too leniant (sp?) to people abusing parking bays for people with disabities. I saw the OK article yesterday when waiting for my scratched car to be assessed at the repair shop and I read this last night in my latest copy of Disability Now.
