Sent the form off on the 11th april and recieved a letter last week acknowledging our form.

I look on my internet banking and find they have made one payment to us today!

I thought i would phone them to see what level we get and said they couldnt tell me but the letter is in the post saying that ds qualifies.

What a result... cant believe how quick they have been after reading some of your nightmares.

That's brilliant news. You must have made a good job with the forms.

Hurray! I'm really glad it all got processed so quickly.

Don't forget that if you get Tax Credits they will be increased if you let them know you are receiving DLA.

I think they only take a long time if there seem to be grey areas that need thinking about. If what you wrote made it clear that your dd qualified then there would be no delay. I remember when I failed my first IB claim and sent in a request for a review, it was passed within four days. They don't hang about if they can help it.

and don't forget to claim carers allowance too

Report

Yep, get on the case for Carer's allowance. And a word of warning about the internet on that front- I did it on the internet and they 'lost' it, had no recollection of my reference number and wouldn't backdate.

i think you've got middle rate care, or low rate for care and mobility.

i dont think low rate affects tax credits. you need the middle or high rate i think.

Report
jbadgirl · 26/04/2005 20:29

i think it must be the lower rate but ill keep you posted once i get the letter

We get middle-rate and get extra tax credits. I don't know about the lower rate though.

Report
MotherEve · 27/04/2005 21:33

We've got middle [care] and low [mobility] but no extra credits :-( Don't know how they work the tax credits out - we queried it and were told high care rate only to alter the tax credits

Personally I don't think even the people dealing with these really know.

IIRC you are supposed to get extra tax credits for middle-rate DLA. If you get higher-rate then you get an extra amount on top of that. I don't know about lower-rate though.

Great news Jbadgirl, well done. Enjoy! Until you start to hatch ways of getting them to increase it
We don't get tax credits and we have higher rate care and mobility. I haven't managed to check it properly.

TheRealMrsF · 28/04/2005 11:01

we get extra tax credits and our dla is MID (care) Low (mobility).
