Just wanted to let you know about a little step forward that Marley took last night that made dh and I really happy because it was real evidence of her progress in speech and communication.

She was playing with the dog on the living room floor but was getting really tired (she is always in bed for 7-7.30, thank god ), so she came over to me knelt and then pulled herself to standing at the sofa and then put her arms up and said "up,up". This in itself was good because until she started getting her regular SALT at nursery she would have just put her arms up and then got more and more frustrated until we worked out what it was she wanted, but she has really 'got' the connection now between using the word for something and then being able to get it/have it.
Anyway, as usual I digress (I have no communication problems BTW !).
She then sat on my knee, pointed to the living room door and said "Door, Stairs, Bubble, Bed" put her arms round my neck, gave me a big hug and sloppy kiss and said "Dove Do Mummy". All that roughly translated from marleyish to english meant "I want to go out of the living room, upstairs, have a bath and then go to bed please" with "I love you Mummy" and the hug and kiss added for good effect as she has quickly learnt that that is my weakness!!!
I know some people might be reading this and thinking 'so what?'. But for us, to hear her using the correct words for so many everyday things, managing to string them together into a chain of events that followed a logical order and using emotions and cuteness to get her own way, all at the same time, was just wonderful!!!!!
It seems that a lot of SN Mumsnetters are having a rough time at the moment but it is these little breakthroughs, incidental little occurences that most people take so much for granted, that make all the difference and make it all worthwhile.
From a very proud mummy. x

Awwww! No wonder you're feeling so proud. I understand exactly what a big achievement that all is. I've just been sitting here feeling over the moon because ds2 has just said "Oh-ij" (sausage). He looked so pleased with himself when he realised I'd understood what he wanted.
