Aspergers in London -- where is best place to get diagnosis for 10 year old

My son aged 10 needs screening for ASD but we have become disillusioned with the local CAMHS who have spent a year fiddling around losing bits of paper and muddling the whole process. And if they do diagnose, we are told the only NHS resources on offer will be a service where they tell the child it has ASD, plus depression treatment in adolescence -- oh and a parent group to advise parents on how to manage behaviour. Seems very weak to me. We don't want to go private as we want him to be diagnosed by a unit that can provide resources for the future where appropriate and is a bit more supportive. We want to go to our GP and ask to go to another clinic. Has anyone any ideas on how to couch this successfully and indeed of any clinics they would recommend, reasonably reachable from West London? Thanks folks

Have had dealings with the Cheyne Child Development Team based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. They have 3 area offices which cover various parts of West London. I found them great. The wait was long which was to be expected but it was all done very efficiently, they were very professional and made it all a lot easier than it might otherwise have been.

You should be offered an appointment with a developmental paediatrician. Go to your GP and ask for a referral. I have a son with AS and have never had any dealings with CAHMS at all.
