Boardmaker Activity Pad - Any experience? Moondog or anyone else?

here I saw this last year and thought it looked good, but though I would have to buy Boardmaker and use lots of new software to get it working so thought it would be too expensive.

However, I've just realised that it doesn't need to be used with Boardmaker and it looks as if the buttons etc are assigned locally on the pad rather than via a computer.

Has anyone used it? I thought it would be a good way of practicing sentence structure and also using a some sort of simple VOCA device. DS1 is very into photos at the moment as well so thought I could think of some creative ways to use it with photos.

Does anyone have any experience?

Ooh no, not seen that (although to be honest, never ever have time to mess about with this stuff). Looks good.

We use the [[http://www.bindependent.com/gotalk.htm Gotalk 9] quite a bit.

I am rather keen on this little key fob into which you can download pictures at present

A nice way to start up a conversation or share news from home after the w/end (obv. used in a different way to what you are looking at, but still good.

Yes I wondered about the go talk 9 but I'm not sure ds1 would use it.

I never have much time either which is why I like the look of the BAP having looked at it again. I could print out some photos, whack them in the machine and then just speak into it to produce the correct words. Or if I want to produce symbols again just print them out and speak into the machine. No hassling around with software or the computer or having to get to grips with new software.

Seems quite flexible in a press and record type of way which probably suits me......

Hmmm.

Thanks moondog- I saw one of those recently and thought I'd get it as a stocking filler. DS1 is always asking for his surfing and camping photos on the computer. Some of those little keyrings do a slideshow mode.

Have you tired experimenting with a single recording device yet that has maybe 10 secs of memeory so you can do one message at a time and see how he responds??

eg saying hello in a group or taking a message /request to another class?

Oh I was thinking more about using it for the teaching bit really. There are some egs in the intellikeys website (will probably stick to PECS and makaton at the mo for communication - although would experiment if we got the thing).

I'd probably sell my intellikeys plus software to part raise the money if we decided to go for it (He can use a normal keyboard now and the things that I would still use intellikeys for can do more easily on the BAP).

It doesn't need any software 2shoes, that's why I'm thinking about it. You can add messages to anything you print out.

oh actually the examples aren't there, they're in a magazine I have at home. The idea would be to replace the computer for some of that stuff (with the added advantage of using it for other stuff too).

It is pricey though, which was why I rejected it when I thought I'd have to buy software as well.

2shoes- have replied on FB.
