So after many tests and consultations we have decided to go ahead and have DS2's palate repaired in order to help his speech.
Whilst we are both obviously nervous about the operation and recovery itself, I also feel strange about what we are (hopefully) going to be achieving.
DS2 is doing well in mainstream school, he's in reception with full one to one help via his statement, he signs, he's happy, he's sociable and he's learning. I can't help feeling that we are trying to change him. I don't ever want him to think that I don't think him perfect already. Because he is. We are doing this for the adult he is to become.
He is very likely to have some kind of learning disability and we just want to give him the best chance, but it's a nasty old operation and he will be in a great deal of pain.
Sorry for blabbering on, just feel ever so slightly crackers, as the tears are flowing easily today.
