Gastro-intestinal inflammation in ASD

Good evening

We have recently had to send off a stool sample for Daniel due to problems with his self-limit diet and also signs of bowel troubles/severe tummy ache. Well the results are in although we havent seen them yet and our nutritionist appears very concerned.

He has a lot of yeast present and also has signs of a very inflammed gut etc. Our nutritionist spoke to my husband this morning and said that something is obv v wrong and suggested irritable bowel disease (not syndrome). She has posted on the results but called again tonight with an update. Unfortunately we missed her call but she said she'd been on to the hospital and needed to speak to us. Now of course I am panicking that something is very wrong with our little man but just wondered if any other parents had children with similar and the symptoms/treatments?

Many thanks

It isn't that unusual to have gasto-intestinal inflammation in people with ASD. And yeast overgrowth is quite common (there's a paediatrician who specialises in this - Mike Tettenborn - he takes NHS and private referrals.

Of course more severe cases of inflammation would come under a gasto-enterologist.

Hope you get clarification today.

Many thanks Jimjams

Yes, the nutritionist has recommended Daniel is referred to a gastro enterologist asap so we are hoping to see a GP and get a referral. We have bupa cover so we might see if we can speed it up a bit.

I'd recommend Simon Murch if you can get to see him. Have heard good things about him from parents. He's not popular with the establishment because of his links with Wakefield, but he understands gut disease and autism.
