DS is almost 3 and we saw the community pead because of concerns about his language development, and repetitive behaviour.

We've finally gotten a report but some of it is inaccurate and some of it I don't understand.

sorry to hijack mogwai can you offer me some advise ds has had atypical speech from 2 cannot pronounce certain sounds with words so bob is gog daddy gaggy replaces most sounds with a k or a g is there anything i can do to help him exercises at home

we have received no SALT as she keeps fobbing us off been a yr half now was supposed to go to clinic to review end of last month not a peep from her got message yesterday to say will be in pre school 2o0th and will probably work with him there

i feel this is nt good enough as she rarely goes into pre school just sets them tasks and he hardly speaks there how do i deal with this i would rather a course of SALT for him to attend he starts schoolo next yr very crucial yr for him needs all the help he can get as none given so far at all

Hi Bubblagirl

He definitely needs some help. What's his concentration like? If he can't concentrate for long he won't be able to benefit from therapy just yet and might need time to mature, perhaps that's why she's not keen to do any direct therapy now?

OTOH, if he can sit and play games and co-operate then I can't understand why she wouldn't see him.

Your only other option might be private therapy but I would caution against downloading pre-written therapy from the internet as this just won't address his needs properly.

his concentration has always been good with tasks even from age 2 he would sit and do things when asked

i really need help with his speech sounds ive asked her time and time again to assess it as she noted at 2 they were atypical and his just been left im wandering if more to it as he cant seem to do front of mouth sounds only back of mouth cannot put sounds together

she has known all this and keeps setting tases to try and get him to talk at pre school and yet not dealing with him outside of pre schoolor with the speech sounds in fact doing nothing with him just wat ching him and then telling pre school to set tasks he needs more than this now

i will have to keep on i guess will ask his sn group for details on private salt and prices will leave her another message to say im not entirely happy as she knows how worried ive been and has now left it another month and to see him in pre school when we both agreed she would see him out of pre school as his a completely dfferent boy and i need to know how to do things at home i will complain on fri as he has his 3 half yr check with his pediatrician [sp?]

she wanted all this kick started from age of 2 so doubt she'll be happy at all

ok i will have to look into that i am going top complain to my pediatrician on friday and hopefully she may be able to kick start a course of SALT

bumped into an old friend today who's son happens to have asd lives near me been waiting 2 yrs for SALT so its not just me it seems our area is crap exscuse the language its so infuriating all i can hope is educational people have granted him some one to one at pre schoola nd that should help alot

thank you just e mailed a few regarding assessing his speech for possible apraxia and how much this would cost hopefully we can do something were not rich by all means fingers crossed i get accepted for carers allowance as back payment could pay for few sessions

my little boy also has a speech disorder and where we live in Lincs there is a shortage of NHS speech therapists. We go private and travel 25 miles each way, she is expensive but worth the money we have 2 sessions a month which is more than the NHS could and would offer us.

He has just been diagnosed with verbal dyspraxia along with disorted and disjointed speech. Now i have got offical diagnosis am going to try NHS again, but don't hold out much hope.

I'm sorry I had a busy weekend, thanks to you all.

There are some blatant errors, some trivial!? i.e d.o.b, address middle name and some things that are just not true.

It also states they are referring to early years for a special needs nursery place, although he's already started a preschool and is doing well.

phone and/or write to them to let them know you consider there are inaccuracies, and see if they will do an amendment/extra para to the report to reflect this. In terms of the special needs nursery place - speak to the preschool about how he is getting on there, and if he does get offered an SN nursery place, go and see it and speak to the staff before deciding on whether or not to accept it. Don't dismiss it out of hand. I don't recall off the top of my head whether your DS's main issue is language - but some areas have specialist nurseries for kids with language problems - that sort of specialist early intervention can be very very helpful.

very good point from TClanger. The professionals do sometimes get things wrong though - one SALT put in her report that DS had no pretend play, and never spoke to the kids in his class . The class thing was very upsetting, as I initially believed her .
