My First Day at Uni!

Was a HUGE success!

Got to uni, found the room I needed with a bit of searching, met some other people on my course, who were all lovely.

Had an ice breaker session and got to know some more people, and then after a break went through the induction itinerary (hmm maybe shouldn't say induction on a parenting site lol you know what I mean!) and a bit more about our field trip next month. Spoke to the course leader, wanted to make sure my support was all OK. "Oh I'm in Room Z all afternoon, pop up and we'll have a chat."

So I did.

I had a copy of my assessment report because I thought it might not have got to him yet (surprise surprise it hadn't!) went through that, he's got no worries about me being on the course and says that I've got to tell them if there's a problem. And now ^proud moment^

If I complete my degree, I will be the first person with a visual impairment EVER to complete a Media Production degree at the uni, in the 10 years the course has been running. How cool is that?

The relief I felt when I knew everything was gonna be fine was immense! I've just got to learn how to get from one bit of the campus to the other, and tell those that I'm friendly with that if I don't wave to them across a road or whatever, or I can't meet them because I don't know where they are, that I'm not being "off" with them, it's part of the sight issues.

I'm going to tell them that I am disabled. Because hey, that's part of me, if they don't like it they can go away!

Ladies, I think I'm gonna be just fine!

Thank you everyone. I'm looking forward to today, partly because we find out more about the course but partly because I'm off go karting tonight. Kart + visual impairment = fun for all! Can't wait. If I take any photos I'LL put them on my profile.

Well the day went well, met the people I'm working with on our first project, etc.

The go karting, wasn't so good. I had real trouble co ordinating my feet and stuff, and decided to sit out the second session. I did complete my first 15 laps though, with a best time of 39.97 seconds round the track . So I tried, and I'm happy. Our coach clipped a car on the way over, which unnerved me so I take that into account too. just about to put the photos up.

Wow. I had a day that really made me smile, mainly because of one, tiny, seemingly insignificant event.

We were in a lecture, and the lecturer had put some stuff up on flipchair paper. She'd gone through it, but I'd forgotten what one part said, and as I couldn't read it, said to Ste, the lad next to me, "What was xyz again?" This is the good bit...

He said, "It's still up there- oh yeah. It's xyz."

Without me having to remind him about my sight. That has never, ever happened in my life, and another friend also offered assistance.
