Hope its ok to post on here. Have posted about my 4 year old DS in past. He is on SN register on school for behavioural reasons. May have SN but not known yet.
One thing he has started to do is do shaking. This is where he gets an object ie a longish thing he can shake. He shakes it and gets very excited and talks to it and uses it to imagine I think. He does it a lot of the time - he shakes leaves out in the street, toy trains stuck together, an aeroplane with a string attached, long thin bath toys - anything.
The thing is that it has shocked me as I now recall that I used to do this when I was little. I used to take myself into my own world when I did it - I loved it. But my parents thought I was strange, were unsympathetic and I was teased by the whole family about it. There was talk I half remember of me seeing a psychiatrist but I dont think I did.
It does look strange - and I think I learnt to just do it at home because of that.
So it has made me wonder - does anyone know what it is or come across anything like it? Its not flapping - its different to that. It has also made me wonder about why I did it. I do understand why DS does it as it is 'nice' but I do orry about what others think of it.
Any information would really help me. Thanks
