I can't find the recent thread that mentioned Social Stories (haven't tried very hard though). I thought some of you might be intersted in this project, it sounds very exciting.

This is a critically important project from the Special Minds Foundation 501(C)(3). As you know, many of our children with autism and other learning disabilities have severe social issues. Video modeling has been shown to be an effective method of teaching these children, and social stories have been very effective in allowing low functioning students to understand situations so that they can react appropriately and not be terrified.

The aim of this project is to create a computer based video, text, and image social stories library. This project has the cooperation of Carol Gray (the Queen of Social Stories). We will be working on the software engine to drive the library. The goal again here is to create a large resource for parents and educators at an affordable price. Mark Shelley, a video production expert and parent of a child with Asperger’s, is the driving force behind the project.

Mark has a fundraising presentation on his web site to help get the project started. He has already started raising funds, so any help will add to that. You will need a high speed internet connection to view the video presentation. Anything that you can do to help this project will help create this much needed tool. You can donate as little as $25 and your donation is tax deductible. Please also pass this on to other friends and contacts that could also help make a difference.

Please visit the web site.

This project is very much in line with our drive to help create large, effective, and affordable tools to help teach children with autism and other learning disabilities. We are committed to assisting the success of this project.
