Any suggestions for a good day out in the northwest with a child in a wheelchair?

blue planet aquarium is mostly wheelchair friendly

Chester Zoo was first thing to spring to my mind too. What does your child like doing?

Martin Mere (Wildfowl and Wetland Trust) is very nice too if your child is into ducks/flamingoes etc.

His eyesight is not great so he prefers interactive / thrillseeking stuff (Brilliant for kids in wheelchairs!!!). I also have a NT 8 year old.

he might enjoy the batcave in Chester Zoo, it's dark with lots of free flying bats. What attractions etc does he usually enjoy?

Museum of Science & Industy in Manchester is good. They have an interactive gallery & big stuff like trains!
The World Museum in Liverpool is also very good (not a whole day thing though)

great ideas. Thanks. He loves trains and animals that he can touch . He is not very good at just looking at things - soon gets bored, but likes to ride on, touch etc. Has to be v. interactive to keep him amused.

Heaton Park has a free farm - so good for touching animals! Or Moss Bank park has a farm section and butterly fly house (free again)

Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester usually has a steam train ride in the holidays (about £1 for 15 minutes). You probably would have to fold up the wheelchair to go on though.

definatly the science museum. they have a bit where they get to touch and feel and "do". It can get a bit busy but it is all accessible wheelchairwise-although the lift takes FOREVER. There is also a transport building close by, some sewers you can go in (not working ones lol!)

And best of all its free!!

btw the science museum has very long "ramps" instead of stairs to get to the upper floors in the main building (where the interactive touch stuff mainly is), so v. v. good for accesibility. The sewers bit has steps up and down to it so may not be great for accessibility, don't know if it has lifts.

liverpool world museum has a liverpool music exhibition - so plenty of music/buttons to press if he is into music at all.

urbis in Manchester has a very interesting lift and a manga exhibition if the kids are into that sort of thing at all. or manchester city art gallery has a Lauren Child exhibition if the kids are into that at all, and a separate interactive kids section. The art gallery is v modern so should be fully accessible via lifts.
