Low muscle tone?

My DS 5 (asd) was recently assessed by an OT and her report states that she suspects he has low muscle tone.

I mentioned it to our paed during a telephone appointment and now she wants to see him in person. Should I be worried?

I’ve been reading about the causes of low muscle tone (cerebral palsy/ muscular dystrophy) could he really have one of these conditions and it’s been missed all this time?

He’s non verbal, has delayed motor kills, uses a buggy as he tires easily.

Any advice would be great.

Low muscle tone can be caused by lots of things. It can also appear just on its own with no cause. If it coincides with other problems have you thought about pushing for genetic testing? Did you get any referrals?

Thanks for replying, that makes me feel a little better that it can appear without a cause.

When he was first diagnosed with asd he had a micro array genetic test done but it didn’t show anything.

We’re still waiting to see the paediatrician for a face to face appointment so she can examine him.
