And I'm a bit nervous about it! Silly I know, but how he responds to birthdays and Christmas seems very important as far as his overall progress is concerned. Although I'm prepared for him not to take much notice of his presents and cards, I know I'll be disappointed if he doesn't.

Have been a very good Mummy though - DS1 found a papier mache cake in his Art Attack annual and had the idea of making it for DS2 because he can't eat cake. It has a hollow top so I can fill it with gf/cf biscuits, sweets etc. Of course DS1 only had the IDEA - guess who ended up making the whole damn thing (while DS1 made spaceships out of the scrap bits of cardboard)? Am rather proud of it though .
Gping to put real candles in the top, so this may be the last you hear of me......

Have a lovely day. Very sweet of your DS1 to find just the thing for his little brother. And i also dread the "I have an idea" announcements from DS when it comes to making things...

Thanks all. So far he's ignored two presents and taken notice of two (Pingu DVDs!) so we're not doing badly. DS1 has had a great time 'helping' him to unwrap his gifts . Don't know why we bother with wrapping really - I think DS2 sees it as just another hurdle to jump. We've decided at Christmas we'll just put them in a box or sack and let him rummage!

Finished the cake at 12.15 last night! Blimming Art Attack stuff - I can't believe that CHILDREN are supposed to be able to do it!

Happy birthday to your DS, and glad he is appreciating the pingu stuff!

Funnily enough I was thinking very similar thoughts just this afternoon about birthdays and Xmas and how much my DS understands. my DS seems to have a firm association between birthdays/cakes and the Happy birthday song so that's a starting point I suppose

We've had a great day, thanks. Very low key, which is how he likes it. He blew out the candles on his cake (thank goodness for ABA - 'DS2 - show me blowing' !) And if we say 'Happy' he'll say 'birthday' and tell us how old he is (huge prompt needed of holding up 5 fingers, but still...)

Proper celebration tomorrow - going to East Somerset railway with grandparents.
