What happens next??

My DS has just today been for his ADOS assessment and I was wondering what should happen next?

The specialist nurse said that she still can't give me any answers as they want to get some more feedback from the Ed pysch but they do think that he will be getting a AS dx.

Does anyone out there know what I should expect next and how long does it normally take for a dx after ADOS?

TIA

Jeanie I am watching this with interest to see what people say to you.

We just had our follow up meeting - 6 weeks after the frist where DS was confimed Aspergers and we saw the report.
They seemed to then tell me it would be referred to other people re the school, we were offered a 6 week "parenting" type course on Wednesday mornings for 6 conscutive weeks starting September - AGG am working and cant do it what a useless time for a parenting course.

I'm not too sure how long it will take for any of their further referrals to be actioned so will watch to see what further advice you get.

Sorry not to be more helpful and I hope soemone else with more experience comes along soon

Hi Jeanie, I've not heard of ADOS, is it terminology for a multi disciplinary assessment for autism, or something similar (been trying to work out what it stands for & I think i'm being thick).
If so I can tell what happened after ds2's assessment.

Mymatemax yes it is - its the protocol they use in the DX to score it as I found out today

Ahh thats why i've not heard of it ds2 doesn't have full autism dx although his paed has asked them to assess again. SO not sure if this is of any help But..
Following ds2's assessment he was given dx of OCD, social anxiety disorder with autistic traits plus eh already has dx of CP.
So all the professionals involved in ds's assessment & those he already had links with outlined their support plan up until start of full time education plus he was identified to the pre school LEA SENCO, it was all put together in a report & copies sent to all & sundry but addressed to his paed who referred him. It did mean he was allocated group OT which was very helpful.
Friends whose dc have been through similar & dx with autism were put in touch with local special school pre school autism outreach who have gone on to follow them & support them & the teachers in to school & have been so helpful.

Hi,

Thank you for your replies.

Well things have moved pretty quickly since I posted this last night. The specialist nurse at CAMHS phoned me this afternoon to go and discuss the results with her. Then she confirmed that he does have AS and I have been given a further appointment tomorrow to go for a final diagnosis meeting with her and the Ed Psych.

I was expecting this next bit to take a while so am feeling a bit stunned this evening. Although I was pretty certain it was AS, it feels very strange to know that it really is. Not sure if that makes sense.
