Where to live in Surrey...?

Hi there,
We are looking to move to Surrey from North London and will have a rough budget of £400k.
Will need to look for a special and mainstream primary for my DS and DD.

I just wondered if anyone had an recommended areas and schools they might be able to suggest.
Thinking it may be easier to rent for a year first until kids are settled and we've got to know the areas better before buying...
Thanks

You may want to look a schooling options first. What specifically are you seeking. Surrey can be difficult with funding for SN.

Thanks LIZS
Would it make a difference him having an EHCP? He has ASD. I'd be looking for a similar school to the one he currently attends. Complex needs, social and comm, emotional and speech delay.
I've heard some boroughs take the finding away and reassess when you move to another Borough...?

You might want to check the process of transferring. There are a few special schools around, which part of Surrey are you hoping to move to? How old is ds?

Having said that a 400k budget for presumably a 3 bed property could be quite limiting.

Take a look at the local offer and see which school looks most appropriate for your child with SEN. The mainstream will be much easier as there are lots of good schools. Surrey SEN is in a bit of a mess but i am guessing the whole country is...

Thanks for your comments. Lots to look into I think. I will call Surrey to understand the process...
grasspigeons I definitely think the country is in crisis.

Hi OP, I'm a bit late to the thread but there's a list somewhere online of govt approved special schools - should have a list of Surrey ones, and Surrey council website should have a list on its SEN / local offer pages.

A friend's DS is at Manor Mead in Shepperton and they say it's lovely. Chertsey has a couple of primaries that are mainstream with autism / communication units plus (obvs for the future) a mainstream secondary with autism unit if those might be helpful.

Waiting lists for East Surrey are awful at the moment (for ASD consultants and CAMHS)

Go for mid borough- Mole Valley etc or west Surrey, budget and schools allowing.

Massive retention issues with paediatric consultants in east surrey for the last four or five years.
