yes.

I had it all sussed, then my daytime tutor for ds1 became unavailable.

Is your area like ours OJ? Nothing for children with significant special needs.

Do you not have a mencap near you oj?

can't get anything for the girls now they are 13.
the playscheme DS is going to is in the village where he goes to school, it's usually for two weeks, but they have cut all of them to four days and are doing big family days at local parks, we won't be able to do those as there will be dogs.

We have a mencap but they provide adult services. There used to be a playscheme at ds1's school, but it lost funding. The only SN playscheme is completely unsuitable for someone like ds1.

We'll be spending ds1's dp's heavily as well OJ. He can go to his childminder this summer (phew), but the rest of the time it is an extra pair of hands rather than a break (which the tutpr would have been). Have a blasted 18000 word report to be in by the end of August as well, so I was relying on some daytime time off.

I am stockpiling the wine as well, so the report will be written pished.

not to look after ds1 alone. I will now need to take on a couple more people and train them, but for ABA students are ideal and of course have cleared off for the summer, so I mioght be better waiting until Sept. Only found out the one 1 though was going to do it couldn't do it this week. Otherwise I get people in when all 3 are at home so we can go out, but those people can't really work with ds1. I am thinking of asking one if she wants to be trained so she can do the odd hour.

I am seeing friends who run programmes on Monday so will ask them if any of their tutors are looking for extra work. Much easier if they have experience otherwise I have to do a lot of training and I haven't got the time.

I might ask the one I;m thinking of training to do the odd hour supervising ds1 alone so I can go to meetings etc, but I think its unfair to leave her without having a programme to do, it's not like she can sit and play with ds1, it's more complicated than that.

My dd goes to a ms with support but she also goes to the specialist asd one that runs for 2 weeks. They have a high level of care and have a wide range of children with different levels of asd.

OJ will dp's give you a break? Or is it another case of an extra pair of hands (which is helpful but still exhausting I find, and I have to keep the house vaguely tidy and provide lunch etc).

mymatemax · 07/07/2007 22:14

DS2's childminder has informed me she is off for nearly 4 weeks & she can't do any extra hrs the weeks she is working.
We are going to Devon for a week but I have no more holiday left (used all my leave taking ds2 to all his appnts) so the extra will all have to be unpaid leave.
But worse still I know ds2 won't sleep or eat & will spend the hols pacing up 7 down the hallway & licking the windows. he ahtes the weekends because theres less structure how will he cope with 6 weeks.

Mainly they run mainstream with support here which is completely unsuitable for ds1. The SN does have some children with ASD attend, but all the parents I've spoken to say its not idea, and I'm not convinced it would be safe for him. Seems a bit too easy to escape- not designed for runners.

And despite putting in the DFG months ago still no news of that, so will spend the summer panicking about ds1 falling through our ropey windows.

Do you have people that can cope alone with all 3? I can't leave all 3 with anyone except my mum (who works full time), but ds2 and ds3 can be booked into childcare easily enough. It's the ds1 cover that's hard. I'm meant to be at the Uni for a meeting most Wednesdays but have no idea who I can get to look after ds1. Am going to get dh to take some time off work to look after the kids so I can get on with this report. So as I thought I had it all organised.

Taking all 3 out is a nightmare as well. Everywhere is so crowded, DS1 likes going for a walk on the beach, but ds2 hates the beach. Can never think of anything else to do with ds1. I might have to get my dp's person to take ds2 and ds3 to the park whilst I pound the streets with ds1 (he likes that). It will be a long 6 weeks.....

oj ~ have u got a trampoline in your garden. It's a godsend for me with dd. She spends ages on it chattering away to herself

Report
gess · 07/07/2007 22:29

That worked for us one year. Now ds1 will not go on the trampline and screams the place down if ds2 and ds3 go on it. No idea why, he loves bouncy castles, not sure what's wrong with trampolines.

it is difficult to get one person to have all 3, DD'S TA who does DP work for us has 2 kids so can't fit my three in her car as well, gran will have all three at a push but she is going away, the new respite family for the girls are away til mid august, the girls went to them in jan as an emergency, they are fab, she is a SN teacher

respite family sound good. You'll need them by mid August.

We used to spend a lot of the school holidays at our mutual (chatters) friend's. But her dd won't have ds1 or ds3 in the house (doesn't mind ds2) so that's scuppered those days- pity as she has a pool!
