And I feel so conflicted

I’m sad this is a journey we are on, but I’m so glad that she won’t have to crawl about on her hands and knees and will have some independence

Good luck!

I’m not sure of your circumstances but I definitely understand the feelings of confliction. I pushed for a wheelchair assessment for my son and felt excited for him when he sat in it when being measured up but when I turned to my DH he was in tears at the sight of him in it. DH was then the first to take him out in it, to a hospital appointment and returned elated saying how much easier it was getting around with him and people were very accommodating and helpful.

I hope it makes your life a bit easier too.

I have cried everytime we have had a new wheelchair for DS. I've come to accept its ok, just part of the process.

Usually I try an distract myself by finding accessories for it or trying to personalise it a bit. Foot muffs and seat covers when he was little, "headlights" as he got older

Thank you

Dd is 3 and has a chromosome deletion. She’s got low muscle tone, is hyper mobile and can’t stand unaided.

I’ve been told she’ll be able to walk eventually but will tire very easily

I remember the sadness when we got dd’s first wheelchair. The first time I took her out I cried and cried.
Even though I knew it was the only option for her, it didn’t stop my pain and upset.

It is such a big milestone - but it All turned out to be fine. My DD was seen as a child who needed a wheelchair rather than a child who was Too big for her buggy. It also gave her such independence. And As soon as people see us, they can’t do enough to help.
Good luck Flowers

It went well and she took to it really well

I did find attitudes to us in town after massively different. People went out of their way to be helpful.
