Merseyside/Cheshire - where is good for SALT waiting lists/ASD assessment/schooling?

Think we have managed to sell the flat (touch wood). Not fully decided where to move to, and a big factor in my thinking will be what is likely to be to DS advantage in the scenario that he is diagnosed ASD and still has very delayed speech by the time he starts school in Sept 08.

Anyone got any recommendations for areas to move to/avoid? I should I suppose contact AFASIC and or NAS with this query too...

i live in runcorn

AVOID AVOID AVOID!

dd1 has digeorge syndrome and lots of problems with speech and chewing skills. we've been waiting since sept 2005 for a salt worker to come to our house and still we're waiting. make sure your local cdc isn't woodview as they are rubbish. she should be in a sn school by next month (just waiting for the verdict to come back but from reading the psychologist report she should get in), so hopefully she'll start to see all the people she needs to see in there.

our friend who lives in warrington is having a much better time and i've concidered moving there. dp not keen on moving there though

also, i should say in this area it also depends on what needs your child has. we have a friend who's ds has down's syndrome and he gets all the help handed to him on a plate. he's so much brighter than dd1. we have had to fight for everything for dd1 and it does my head in. she has more health problems and is much more delayed than him but because she doesn't have down's syndrome she gets less help, it's so unfair and that's the health authorities are the ones causing this problem. there's a makaton class for children with down's but even though dd1 needs this she isn't allowed to go to it

that's shocking kreamkrackers (the SALT wait, the makaton class etc). I haven't the slightest idea which CDC we are being referred to, as they don't bother sending out appointment dates till the month before . very interesting to hear that about warrington.
