I am new to mums net but was wondering if anyone could advise. My daughter age 16 has ASD and dyspraxia and currently in mainstream education. It is not really working out the situation is getting worse not better. . She is currently doing GCSE but is very unhappy. She wants to do A levels and we want to find some where for her to do this. She feels a square peg in a round hole and is very anxious and depressed. Does anyone know of suitable schools ?

Are you looking for mainstream or a special school? What worked for my DS who has ASD and anxiety was a move (when he was in Y8) to a much smaller independent mainstream that has small class sizes. (He was at a large comp).

Thank you. I don't mind if it is mainstream or a special school but I suspect a special school would work better now.

A lot of VI form colleges do say they provide good SN support but in our case the other pupils mostly were very disruptive, so it wasn't somewhere dd would have been comfortable.

Have you considered Interhigh?

I don’t know anything about special schools in Surrey - apart from Limpsfield Grange in Oxted (girls only, ASD specialism) BUT that doesn’t have a sixth form. I did visit for my DD - most of the girls went to Surrey sixth form colleges - I think there’s info where they went on Limpsfield’s website. Actually I’m pretty sure one girl went to the sixth form at my DS and DD’s school. Happy to PM you the name - it is in a county next to Surrey.

Thank you. interhigh does not have the subjects she wants. I also think she might find it hard to keep motivated.
Thank you for the offer to PM me the school name. I am new to mumsnet how does PM work ? thank you

My dd (ASD, ADD, GAD) has a place at West Heath for September and will actually be studying A levels at Sackville with support from West Heath. I don’t know much about the school but am interested in other people’s experiences.

I will PM you guitar and TAmum. (You will get an email at the address you registered with Mumsnet saying you have a private message and you follow the link. You also get a red dot next to the person symbol at the top of the page - but I usually miss that!)

But the PM needs to wait til I’ve fed DC!
