After an entire years delay (entirely due to rubbish SENco) School arranged for an 'asd specialist teacher' to observe ds (12) in class.

ASD person called me and said she would want to refer him to Caamhs straight away 'as diagnosis takes a long time and around here & you need it in place for High School or he will fall through the cracks'.
SENco was to do the referral (she said it was the 'first she'd ever done') but then it got passed to the ASD person which I was pleased about as she is more experienced.

ASD person asked for copies of private reports but I dont know if SENco passed them on as she is very disorganised.
I know that the SENco told her that 'Mum is rather anxious' (after we had complained about the years delay!!!)
I asked Head last week where referral was at. She gave me the ASD persons email and told me to check directly.

Do you think this wording sounds okay / not too 'anxious' / pushy:

" Dear ASD person. We were pleased to hear that you are doing the Referral. I hope that School passed on the Report from Dr X and the recent OT report too, in case they are of help.

As you know, we are not anxious about the Referral itself but have been keen to get things moving as there was a delay of a whole year last year.

We were glad to know that you also feel that it is important to get ds's diagnosis looked at prior to High School so we are really pleased that you are moving ahead so speedily with this. Please can we have a copy of the referral paperwork and advice on likely timescales once it is done?' Thank you.

Does that sound too demanding / defensive about anxiety?

I maybe would rephrase a couple of bits,

"We are pleased to hear that you are doing the Referral. Has School passed on the Report from Dr X and the recent OT report too? I can forward you copies of these if you don't already have them"

I'd skip the bit that says about anxious and just go straight in with "we are keen to get things moving as there was a delay of a whole year last year."
And then
"WE ALSO feel that it is important to get ds's diagnosis looked at prior to High School so we are really pleased that you are moving ahead so speedily with this."

Otherwise I don't think it's too pushy, and sounds like you are fully supportive.

Thank you! OK. revised version:

"We are pleased that School passed on the Referral to you.
We hope that School also passed on the Report from Dr X and the recent OT report too, in case they are useful?
We were keen to get things moving as there was a delay of a whole year last year so we are really pleased you can do the Referral by the end of this term.
We agree that it is important to get ds's assessment as complete as possible prior to High School and look forward to hearing from you again in due course re timescales / what happens next."

Do you think that will do?

Perfect!

FYI - you’ll need to get use to chasing things up and pointing out delays.

And learn to ignore all the “parents are anxious” bollocks and other comments as these are just deflection tactics.

Best one I ever heard was “youare DS ASD is a home issue”.
Because clearly he’s not autistic 8.30-3 term time only WinkHmmGrin

Got a reply.
Referral will be done by Friday.
18-25 weeks wait for appointment thereafter, for ASD it is 25 weeks.

Is there any point now complaining that the Senco failed to refer for a whole year even though the Head (now left) told us it would happen by last Christmas?
