How do I keep 2yr old safe from 5yr old with SEN, especially in the car?

My 5yr old son who has learning disabilities, is non-verbal and has mild cerebral palsy keeps attacking his 2yr old sister. Mostly biting and hair pulling. The worst is in the car where he pulls her hair out and scratches and pinches her quite badly. I can't seem to fashion a barrier that he can't get past and would be safe in a crash. Does anyone have any suggestions about keeping her safe from him?

This Dad made some out of foam core board which you can get at art and craft shops. Possibly B&Q too

We bought a 7 seater car! Ds2 sits in the very back seat while ds1 and 2 sit along the seats in front.

It's not a cure all - ds2 is spitting at the moment and his elder brother hates that more than being lumped one, but it does keep them safe.

I have child zoned the house too and ds2 has his own areas when his siblings arnt allowed. Ds2 even has his own sofa and I am very strict about them not going near each other if it starts to descend into a fight. It is a case of divide and conquer in our house!

Could you just put one of them on the front passenger seat and the other one in the back? We disabled our passenger side airbag and DD1's carseat is in the front. DD2 and DS are in the back. Gives everyone a bit more space. We are saving up for a 7-seater, which gives the most options for seperating them.

Hmm, this is sold in the USA. No idea if there is a European distributor.

My biter has backseat to himself as my other two dc sit in passenger seat and the boot seat. Though have found giving him my phone to watch cartoons or his ds3 game thingy has reduced attacks

Thanks so much, yes perhaps we need a new car, I think I've been hoping it's a phase. That backseatwally thing is amazing, might look into that first though. Thank you so much everyone. I didn't realised how much it would help to know I wasn't the only one. He can be so sweet sometimes, I just don't know why he does it.

Wow that backseatwally is $134! JsOtherhalf, where is the black one from in the first picture? I can't see anything like that on the first link you posted.

Or just a chunk of thick firm foam covered in wipe-clean fabric. I would steer clear of something like wood which could spinter in an accident and result in nasty injuries.

It's made by the charity Cerebra, specifically for that child. It might be worth contacting them to see if they can do one for you.

Or, as has been suggested some thick foam, with something like a PVC tablecloth cut and glued or sewn to it?
