Hi,

Dd is being referred for ADOS assessment, please can someone clarify if this would take place at school or would this be an appointment that i would need to attend with my dd? thanks

ADOS would usually be done in a clinical setting not a school. I sat in on ds's but wasn't allowed to interact, some parents can view through a 2 way mirror and sometimes the ADOS is carried out while parents are interviewed separately.

It varies massively, but you can call them and ask, and also ask to be put on the cancellation list.

our keyworker said he would be marking the referal as urgent...not that im expecting a diagnoses...feel like all this is for nothing...just wondered what the average wait time was x

The last survey I saw said average wait from referral to diagnosis was over 2 years, but it varies hugely.

I think referral means first referral for autism assessment.

But it's what happens locally for you that counts. I'd give them a ring and find out timescales.

DS1 had his ADOS in 2008 and the wait then (after the clinic had accepted the referral) was 12 weeks. DS3 was referred for his ADOS last year and the wait was 8 months. For both the ADOSs we were in the room with them but speaking with the Consultant Paediatrician giving a full history. We were also told the results on the day within 30 minutes. In fact DS3 was more like 10 minutes.
It's definitely worth a call to see how it works in your area and to make sure the referral has got through and if you need to complete any additional forms etc.
