Hi everyone (poster who used to be lingle here if anyone is still around)

A child I've just started working with one-to-one has told me her favourite songs are

about a Samurai and a song by Pink called Just Like Fire.

One of the things I work towards is identifying links between "my" kids and their peers. We are a long way from that just now but I wondered whether those of you with daughters around that age could tell me whether these are "mainstream" songs for the age group.

Off to learn the Samurai song now!!

NT Y5 girl, on the young side for her age. Doesn't recognise Samurai, said politely that it wasn't really her sort of thing and please could I turn it off. The Pink track she recognised, though did not know well, and liked a lot.

She doesn't listen to R1 or follow the charts though. First few tracks of Now! CDs or similar compilations are a good bet - this is the sort of stuff that gets played at gym etc and will have filtered through to the radio stations I put on in the car!

Thanks for checking. I'll ask staff at school too.

That Samurai music video is very odd, reminds me of the 80's - 90's cheesy music vids.

Does it matter if her tastes are different to her PNT peers?

Very helpful thanks.
I'm going to learn them and we'll hopefully sing them together...

I suspect I may end up learning the dance routines too :)

I have a y5, y4, y2 and reception dd. One of them has ASD. Place marking, I'll show them tonight and feedback.

Fwiw, it's my y4 that has ASD. All 3 of them like popular music to the same extent, Little Mix is a big favourite, but any kind of top 10 thing. Also love the Trolls, Moana and Sing soundtracks. I notice my dd with ASD will also sway towards the music from school Popsico, times table raps. My other dds know these, but aren't that into them. Being able to share the same music is great, I find it really helpful for all of them because they get to enjoy things as siblings ... until they start fighting over what song is next Angry
